ABSTAIN: ApeCoin DAO Voters Have A New Option When They Vote On AIPs

As the ApeCoin DAO takes to the polls this week to vote on another Ape Improvement proposal, holders will see that they have a new voting option other than “in favor” or “against.”

After 3.1 million $Ape were cast in favor of AIP-200 titled “Add “Abstain’ Option to Snapshot” last week, the ApeCoin DAO has added the button to this week’s vote.

The Oxford Dictionary defines abstain as " formally decline to vote either for or against a proposal or motion."

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, AIP-200 author and Working Group Zero Steward, Amplify, wrote in his proposal that the addition of an abstain voting option could increase participation in DAO governance.

“Adding abstain to voting allows users to vote on every proposal regardless of how they feel about the proposal," Amplify wrote. “This would also allow ApeCoin DAO delegates to maintain a high voter participation rate. Many delegates and voters will simply not vote if they wish to vote against a proposal. This weakens the data for # of voters and # of votes and makes our DAO look less active than it really is.”

At the time of this article’s publication, only 3.2 $Ape have been cast as an abstain vote so far.

The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow the ApeCoin DAO and will keep you posted on all thing $Ape.
