BAYC Co-Founder Garga Explained Why Yuga Labs Created The Made By Apes Program

During today's Bored Ape Yacht Club and Saasy Labs Twitter Space on the 'Made By Apes' program,' Garga explained the 'why' behind the initiative.

After the BAYC and Saasy Labs launched the “Made by Apes” program earlier this week with the goal of verifying, supporting, and amplifying community created goods and services, the two teams got together to discuss the new program.

“We are super excited about this,” BAYC Co-Founder Garga said during today’s space. “ Two years ago it just made sense to grant the commercial license to anyone who owned an ape. If you own an ape, you should be able to do what you want with it. It just felt like a natural extension of what we wanted to do with the club.; but to see how much people have latched onto that from those earliest days blew our minds.”

While community members have built brands, written lore, and plastered their primates on merch, Garga and the Yuga Labs team noticed that it was difficult for the community to find out about Ape-themed goods and services, and even harder for the community to verify that these things were made by Apes. Thus, they set out to create the Made By Apes Program!

“Its been hard for people to find what everyone else is making,” Garga said. “So productizing this thing into making a true registry where we can see everything that’s legitimately coming from the community was really missing.”

To make this missing product, the BAYC connected with Richy Rich and the Saasy Labs team to create a way for Yuga Labs to prove, on-chain, that goods and services were made by Apes!

“If we weren’t doing this in a way that felt native to Web3 then why do it at all,” Garga said. “We learned that Saasy was working on this in a way that really meshed with our vision, and they were also down to collaborate on creating a product in this way with us!”

Every BAYC member who is creating a good and service with their Ape is now invited to join the Made By Apes program and obtain a license to build!

BAYC members who are interested in signing up can request a license here:

The Bored Ape Gazette is working to bring you additional coverage of the Made by Apes program and today’s space with the BAYC and Saasy Labs. Stay tuned for updates!
