HAPPY ANNIVERSARY: The CryptoPunks Are Celebrating Their Sixth Birthday Today!
Today marks the six-year anniversary of Larva Labs' CryptoPunk mint, and everybody in the Web3 space is paying their respects to the project that started it all!
On June 9, 2017, Larva Labs published their CryptoPunks smart contract and invited the world to claim a pixelated punk.
“The CryptoPunks are 24x24 pixel art images, generated algorithmically,” Larva Labs wrote on its website back in 2017. “Most are punky-looking guys and girls, but there are a few rarer types mixed in: Apes, Zombies and even the odd Alien. Every punk has their own profile page that shows their attributes as well as their ownership/for-sale status.”
After the smart contract was published, Larva Labs took to Twitter and Reddit to sound the alarm that their project was live! Check out these historic posts below:
Fast forward to today and the CryptoPunks project is now a part of the Yuga Labs ecosystem, and the company is working to place the Punks in prestigious art museums around the world via its Punks Legacy Project.
“Yuga believes that CryptoPunks deserve to be on the walls of contemporary art and design institutions worldwide,” Yuga Labs’ CryptoPunk Lead Noah Davis wrote on November 15,2022. “We’re honored to announce the Punks Legacy Project, an initiative by Yuga Labs to donate iconic CryptoPunks from our collection to museums around the world. Our team will oversee the donation and installation of several CryptoPunks to leading contemporary art museums around the globe, providing these museums with resources regarding security, NFT display best practices, and Web3 education.”
The Bored Ape Gazette is working to bring you continued coverage of the CryptoPunks' six-year anniversary. Stay tuned for updates, and a happy six-year anniversary to every CryptoPunks holder! Here's to many more!
