MEET THE CANDIDATE: Houdinifr Is Running For Special Council

ApeCoin DAO contributor and Special Council nominee, Houdinifr, is running for the $Ape office to become the "face" of Yugaverse outsiders in the community.

The election season of 2023 is in full swing at ApeCoin DAO, with 21 contributors officially running to replace Yat Siu or Alexis Ohanian on the DAO's Special Council this summer.

Among the candidates vying for a position on the ApeCoin DAO's Special Council is ApeCoin DAO contributor Houdinifr.

“I go by Houdinifr, a name that might be unfamiliar to you. And that’s exactly the point,” Houdinifr wrote on his Discourse nomination page. “I’m not just seeking a position on the Special Council to fulfill its demands, but to also serve as a conduit for those who are on the outside looking into our vibrant ApeCoin community. With your trust, I promise to fuel my position with ALL of my skills, experiences, and undivided attention.”

To find out more about Houdinifr and why he should be the "face" of outsiders, the Bored Ape Gazette reached out to him for an interview. Check it out below:

1. How did you get into the ApeCoin DAO?

“I got into the DAO when ApeCoin became available on Coinbase last year in March. I was captivated by the NFT space for a few months, especially Yuga Labs and everything Garga & team were working on. And in viewing the success of BAYC, MAYC, along with the endless list of ApeCoin’s future utility possibilities, I knew that ApeCoin would be a wise investment for the long run. But I didn’t ENGAGE with the DAO until a year later, where Halina, Daniel, and team, of ThankApe launched an amazing idea-a-thon. I felt that was a comfortable opportunity - as someone without a Yuga PFP - for me lay out my ideas and see what people think.”

2. In a sentence or two, why should the community vote for you?

“People should vote for me for the same reason they may be invested in ApeCoin for the long run. In my Special Council role, I want do great work AND leverage my platform to be the face of Yuga PFP “outsiders” - individuals that are also necessary to the everlasting longevity of ApeCoin and its utility.”

3. What would you like to accomplish if elected?

“The first thing I’d like to do is collaborate with members to assess how our current way of operating within the Special Council may need to change in the future. For example, when an AIP is submitted, “DAO members must search past proposals to ensure any idea they intend to write a proposal for has not already been submitted.” Like scaling a startup, once we reach AIP-1000 or AIP-5000, we would need a better strategy of conducting that search due to heightened volume. Another goal of mine is to make sure that as we roadmap and roll out processes, platforms even, that they are user-friendly to experienced members of the DAO, inexperienced members of the DAO, AND newcomers altogether. This naturally emerges from my background in product and user-centricity, and I feel our Special Council can lean on me to help create streamlined experiences.”

4. Where do you see the DAO a year from now?

“A year from now, I see an amazing melting pot of NFT communities, Web3 advocates, and the typical “sideliners” heavily involved in our very promising DAO. I see a place where people aren’t afraid to make a general post on Discourse or aren’t afraid to share their ideas on a Spaces. I see more people utilizing the Ape Foundation to create amazing web3 products that give back to the community. I envision the DAO becoming the heart of Web3, with ApeCoin making significant strides in the realms of Web3 gaming, arts, and entertainment.”

5. What makes you different from the other candidates?

“On top from my ‘Yuga PFP outsider’ perspective, I’m not someone that has run multiple 6,7,8 figure businesses, not a corporate lawyer, don’t have a web3 startup, not an Ivy-league graduate, or even has that many Twitter followers. I’m slightly more ordinary and closer to the people. I’m someone that continues to do great ground-level work while fulfilling leadership duties with flying colors. I have direct experience in a scaling organization and facilitating its many parts while wearing many hats. I know how important it is to put your stakeholders - your community - at the center of everything you do while also playing by the rules. The combination of these experiences and skills is what makes me different from other candidates.”

6. Do you have anything else you’d like to add or say?

“First, my DMs are open, and my nomination is live on Discourse where you can comment. Please ask me any questions or provide any thoughts you have. I practice what I preach and encourage communication. I’d like to leave you with a story: In a Californian garage, two friends pursued a dream, each contributing their unique skills. One, a master of technology, built extraordinary machines. The other, a market savant, instinctively knew people's desires. Together, they crafted a product that, little did people know, would revolutionize the world. Today that company is called Apple. This is a testament to the power of diverse perspectives coming together, much of what I aim to bring to the ApeCoin Special Council. Vote Houdinifr.”

The window to vote in the ApeCoin DAO's first round of Special Council voting opens on June 15th, and $Ape holders will have until June 21st to cast their votes and support their preferred nominees. After the first round of voting, the top five nominees with the most votes will proceed to the second round of voting and officially become candidates. The DAO will then conduct one more election from June 22nd to 28th, during which the community will elect two Special Council members to replace Yat Siu and Alexis Ohanian on the board.
