MEET THE CANDIDATE: MetaverseLawyer Is Running For Special Council

ApeCoin DAO contributor and Special Council nominee, MetaverseLawyer, is looking to bring his 17 years of legal experience to the Special Council and help the DAO live up to promise of being a decentralized and autonomous organization.

The election season of 2023 is in heating up at ApeCoin DAO, with 21 contributors officially running to replace Yat Siu or Alexis Ohanian on the DAO's Special Council this summer.

Among the candidates vying for a position on the ApeCoin DAO's Special Council is ApeCoin DAO contributor MetaverseLawyer.

“"I am running for the ApeCoin DAO Special Council because I want to help the DAO reach its potential as a transformative way to organize our community resources,” MetaverseLawyer wrote on his ApeCoin Candidate page. “With my unique background that includes deep knowledge of legal and regulatory matters, I am well-suited to provide valuable insights and guidance to the DAO."

To find out more about MetaverseLAwyer. and why he’s the right $Ape for the job, the Bored Ape Gazette reached out to him for an interview. Check it out below:

1.How did you get into the ApeCoin DAO?

“I joined ApeCoin DAO via the airdrop at token launch. I joined BAYC in June 2021, and have been very fortunate to be early to the club and to have the conviction to hold onto my apes and mutants through the ups and downs. I've been more of a "lurker" than active participator in the DAO up until now, and hope the ApeCoin DAO accepts me the way I've felt accepted in the BAYC community over the past two years.”

2.In a sentence or two, why should the community vote for you?

“I'm asking for the community's vote because I think the council needs someone with my depth of legal experience (17 years of active practice in the US) during this critical time in the DAO's evolution. I have been in the legislative and regulatory trenches over the past 2-3 years, have litigated against US regulators, and am optimistic for the future despite the many challenges we currently face.”

3.What would you like to accomplish if elected?

“If elected, my focus will be to put the D and the A into the DAO (to champion proposals that help the DAO decentralize and automate as much as possible - more efficiency and less centralization). I also feel strongly about initiatives that promote demand for APE and/or create utility for APE to be used in everyday life as a means of payment. Finally, I also want to continue to support the growth of the DAO globally, in particular to non-English speaking communities and emerging markets.”

4. Where do you see the DAO a year from now?

“I hope to see us having implemented an auto-compound button with Ape staking within the year ;-P In addition, I see us as being the model for DAO communities in web3 in terms of growth, engagement, unity, and with unparalleled support of DAO-funded initiatives such that it's the DAO of choice for creative dreamers who want to build a better future.”

5. What makes you different from the other candidates?

“I think I'm probably older than most candidates (46 years old), and hopefully the additional years of life plus my 17 years of professional experience have given me added wisdom and insight that will be a good addition to the Special Council.”

6. Do you have anything else you’d like to add or say?

“Given the community's recent discussions about SC salary, I wanted to add that I view this as a full-time position for me. I have intentionally reduced my other obligations and held off on pursuing other full-time opportunities within web3 in order to run for this position and be available to give my full time and attention to the DAO. The salary is in line with what I would command for other positions I am qualified for. If elected, I plan lock up at least half of my compensation for one year. Thank you for your consideration, and please vote for MetaverseLawyer for ApeCoin DAO Special Council!”

The window to vote in the ApeCoin DAO's first round of Special Council voting opens on June 15th, and $Ape holders will have until June 21st to cast their votes and support their preferred nominees. After the first round of voting, the top five nominees with the most votes will proceed to the second round of voting and officially become candidates. The DAO will then conduct one more election from June 22nd to 28th, during which the community will elect two Special Council members to replace Yat Siu and Alexis Ohanian on the board.
