Q&A: Find Out More about AIP-238 And The Author's Plan to Add A Little Chaos To $Ape Holders' NFTs

The ApeCoin DAO is currently voting on an Ape Improvement Proposal that aims to allow community members to add a touch of chaos to their NFTs through a custom art process called the "Forge."

AIP-238 titled “Mecha Chaotic: Forge- Add Chaos To Your PFP” is an ecosystem allocation fund proposal written by ApeCoin DAO Contributor and Mecha Chaotic Founder, Ethan S Brewerton.

“The Forge is an interactive, community-driven platform created by Mecha Chaotic that allows Mecha Chaotic NFT holders to customize and enhance their NFTs from other Collection,” Brewerton explained in his proposal. “By collaborating with their artist, Ethan S. Brewerton, during livestreams, NFT holders can create and add unique traits to their existing NFTs, giving them a personalized touch. This innovative approach to NFT customization encourages community involvement and enhances the value of the NFTs by making them a one-of-a-kind companion piece.”

“Collectors will collaborate with me to make the traits, and then again while choosing what traits they’d like to use on their PFP in the Forge,” Brewerton wrote. “Think of me as a traveling performer promoting myself while serving the communities, I’m performing in. All the while promoting myself, Mecha Chaotic, and most importantly for you all, ApeCoin.”

In total, Brewerton is asking the ApeCoin DAO to allocate 19,000 $Ape or $58,900 USD to his proposal so he can update the forge platform, get guest artists, and focus on forging the community’s ideal derivate NFTs.

1.How did you get into NFTs space and how’d you get involved with the ApeCoin DAO?

“In the spring of 2020 I was contacted and ultimately contracted by @The_Vogu to make a special edition background for them. My background ended up being one of the most valuable traits in the collection which led to people asking me if I had other work. That’s when I started Mecha Chaotic with some friends with the goal to create something that we thought was fun and cool. One of my biggest proponents during this time was @NFTGerry, and he’s been an adviser and friend ever since we were trying to mint Vogu during the gas war of their mint. Through him I’ve met many in the Ape community and therefore many in the ApeCoinDAO community, so when I started talking about the Forge, they all recommended I pursue an AIP, as it would be a perfect fit for improving everything that I’m doing with the Forge. I agreed, and now I’m here hah.”

2. In a sentence or two, can you sum up what AIP-238? What’s this proposal all about?

“AIP-238 is a way for people to personalize their NFTs in a way that’s fun, engaging, and interactive.”

3. What is the Forge and how does it work?

“The Forge is a live performance, a website, and a contract. The live performance is where I make traits for a given collection with that collection’s community, or whoever would like to participate. I will livestream and take suggestions from the audience as to what traits to make. The website is where you build your personalized PFP with those traits and the contract links it to you on the blockchain. So you will connect your wallet, then select the collection that you own (and I’ve made traits for). You can then use the traits created during the livestreams to transform your PFP however you see fit. When you’re satisfied you will be able to mint it into the Forged Collection and into your wallet.”

4. How will community members be able to take part in it? How long does it take to edit people’s NFTs? Will it cost anything?

“In addition to being able to help me come up with the new traits, users will also have the ability to pick and choose which traits they use on their PFP through the website. You will be able to click on traits to add them and play around before minting. If you knew exactly what you wanted, and were quick, you could probably build and mint a Forged NFT in less than 2 minutes, but it’s really up to the decisiveness of the individual. Currently we’re looking at .02ETH or 25$APE(due to higher volatility) to mint a Forged NFT. Though those numbers could change based on the market.”

5. Where do you see the Forge and your art a year from now?

“Well, I’ve been doing art like this since early 2018, so at this point it’s easy for me to say that I’ll still be doing this. I’m really hoping that we can use the Forge to interconnect and unite more communities in the Web3 space so that we can all work more collaboratively to increase awareness of the benefits of this technology and expose more people to cool experiences.”

6. What should the community know about you before they vote?

“My goal has always been to make cool stuff that people enjoy interacting with. This is something that I feel is a mutually beneficial situation, where I need funding to build the Forge into something more than I can fund on my own. A better experience, and a tool for the community to engage with, and artists to utilize. The best way to engage with a community and connect is to create something fun. This is something I can do, and for the ApeCoin DAO to show that it supports it would go a long way to win over the community.”

7. Do you have anything else you’d like to add?

“I’d love to hear any positions that are against my proposal, to either create a dialogue about it or perhaps improve my ideas. I’ll be on the WG0 ApeCoin DAO Discord Monday 6/5 and Tuesday 6/6 at 8pm EST making art and engaging in conversation with whoever would like to drop in. I’m looking forward to hanging out and chatting with everyone there!”

The window to vote on AIP-238 is currently open and ApeCoin DAO contributors have until Wednesday, June 7th, at 9 P.M. EST to cast their coins and vote on this Proposal.
