SPOTLIGHT: This Bored Ape Yacht Club Member Is Working To Onboard More Users To Web3 Via Hackathons

In an effort to onboard more people into Web3 and create opportunities for innovation, this Bored Ape Yacht Club member is setting up “hackathons” all over the world.

BAYC member NFTxExplore, AKA Meg Riordan, has teamed up with several Web3 leaders such as the HUGs’s Michael Littig and the Zuckerberg Institute to host hackathons across the globe.

For those unfamiliar with hackathons, they are short fast paced events that bring people together to design and produce new solutions in a finite time period. Oxford Languages defines a hackathon as “an event in which a large number of people meet to engage in collaborative computer programming.”

NFTxExplore told the Gazette that her goal with these events is to educate others on the space, expand networks, and let participants know about all the opportunities that Web3 has to offer.

“Web3 can provide access and potential pathways for economic equity," she said. "We’re seeing jobs emerge that didn’t exist a few years ago. People can be creators, artists, educators, community builders, or bring business, sales, gaming, AR/VR or programming skills. The opportunities are vast - and it’s just the beginning."

NFTxExplore and her team held their first hackathon last month in Chisinau, Moldova where 15 teams (over 100 people) learned about Web3 and competed for the chance to join HUG’s Web3 business accelerator program.

Onboarding more people into Web3 via hackathons and events has gotten a lot of attention recently around the swamp. As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, the ApeCoin DAO voted in favor of AIP-96 titled Funding for Public Goods (ETHGlobal & Gitcoin) by ApeCoin Special Council Member Maaria Bajwa. In this AIP, the DAO voted to allocate $200,000 USD worth of $Ape to various public goods including hackathons last month.

Currently NFTxExplore and her team are working to set up more hackathons across the globe and they want BAYC members’ help.

“We would love to tap into the expertise of BAYC members,” she said. “This community has amazing thought leaders and innovators whose work can help spark other people’s ideas, helping them to activate Web3 solutions.”
