And then there were eight!

After a week of madness, including a stunning underdog victory by the Not A Punks Cult over GobsOnApe, Unboxing Web3’s May Madness continues tomorrow as the “Elite Eight” ApeChain NFT collections, as voted on by the community, advance to the second round for a shot at ApeChain history and the title of best project.
Following a wild slate of matchups, the May Madness tournament is down from 16 collections to eight: GeezOnApe, Rillaz, Pxl Pals, Chumpz, Not A Punks Cult, DSNRS, Zards, and Dengs. Each project is still in the running for the crown as the top NFT collection on the unofficial home of NFTs, ApeChain.
“That is wraps up the Sweet 16... next up is the ELITE 8 which kicks off tomorrow between the #1 seed @GeezOnApevs. @ApeChainRILLAZ,” Unboxing Web3 tweeted. “TURN IN and TURN ON.”
“We saw a huge upset too when Gobs got defeated by Not A Punks Cult with over 500 people voting in that matchup,” Unboxing Web3’s Co-Founder Guccheetah told the Gazette. “The founder is apparently getting a tattoo to celebrate the victory lol.”
As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, Unboxing Web3’s May Madness tournament follows the same structure as NCAA’s March Madness. But instead of buzzer-beaters and slam dunks, it’s vibes and community votes on X polls that determine which projects advance.
“Each day of a matchup we will post a video breaking down the matchup along with a Twitter poll,” Guccheetah previously told the Gazette.“The Twitter poll will last 24 hours and the project with the most votes advance in the tournament.”
Take a look at Unboxing Web3’s upcoming Elite Eight matchups:
5/15 Geez Vs Rillaz
5/16 Pxl Pals Vs Chumpz
5/19 Not A Punks Cult Vs. DSNRS
5/20 Zards Vs.Dengs.

By the end of May, Unboxing Web3 will crown one ApeChain NFT project as its winner, and one lucky bracket maker will take home the 1,000 $APE grand prize along with a bunch of NFTs.
“May Madness has been incredible so far, tons of brackets submitted and amazing engagement from all communities,” Guccheetah told the Gazette. “We've had some generous contributions to the prize pool, with NFTs donated by Rillaz, NPC, Wild Dogs, and a special shout-out to @apecoin for adding Mintoraurs and some Dengs. Now, the winning bracket not only gets 1,000 $Ape but also 13 NFTs! As an MBA, our goal is that our videos and content shine a spotlight on our top ApeChain NFT projects. Our daily May Madness updates showcase what these projects are building, bringing renewed attention and exposure to their incredible work. Can't wait to see how the tournament unfolds as we enter Elite 8, and the Final 4!”
