APES EXPLAIN: How to Use Your BAYC NFT Hoodie and Sign Up For Decentraland

Last week the Bored Ape Yacht Club teamed up with Decentraland to air drop every Bored Ape holder a free wearable NFT hoodie.

“All BAYC members need to be comfy in the metaverse, “The Bored Ape Yacht Club tweeted. “So we've partnered with @Decentraland to send every ape-holding wallet a hoodie wearable NFT. These should be showing up in wallets now. See ya in the metaverse!”

While every ape was excited to receive the cool NFT merch, many in the BAYC are new to crypto and do not know about Decentraland or the metaverse at large.

In order to educate apes, The Bored Ape Gazette sat down with fellow Bored Ape #192, known as _Navdw on Twitter to find out more about Decentraland and how to use the NFT hoodie.

Question 1. What is Decentraland?

Nav: Decentraland is an Ethereum-based virtual world where you can play, explore, and interact with other people, games or activities. You can also purchase parcels of land on which to build your own environments, marketplaces, and applications. In my experience the most popular practical applications for Decentraland and other virtual worlds are Ethereum mini-games, NFT galleries and marketplaces and social spaces for digital-first communities.

Question 2. How do you sign up? Does it cost money?

Nav: Getting into Decentraland is relatively easy if you have used Ethereum on-chain before. Like most Ethereum applications, Decentraland can use your Metamask or other wallet as a SSO (single-sign-on mechanism). So you just have to go to http://decentraland.org, connect your wallet and start having fun.

Question 3. Once an ape is in Decentraland, then what?

Nav: Once you are in Decentraland you can begin interacting with the world and your fellow inhabitants. Travelling from point a to b is very easy as there is a fast travel function (much to the dismay of people who spent big money on buying location-specific land parcels, lol)

Question 4. How do apes get their hoodie onto their avatar?

Nav: Once you are in Decentraland, you can very easily customize your avatar by clicking in the profile icon at the top right of the screen. Once open, you will see all of the default Decentraland avatar gear but you will also see any other wearables which you have purchased, created or been gifted. You should very quickly see your BAYC hoodie in the list.

Question 5. What else should apes know about the metaverse/ Decentraland?

Nav: Much of Decentraland is built around Mana, the native currency inside Decentraland - There are competitors like CryptoVoxels, Sandbox, SomniumSpace - You can see where other people are currently hanging out by opening the map (people are the small red dots). Highly encourage going to where the people are and trying to connect and make friends - Decentraland may seem primitive in comparison to AAA gaming titles, but the future is bright for both virtual world based gaming as well as NFT powered gaming. Get involved and make your mark on the gaming industry.
