B(ored)MW BALLOT: Bejado Wants To Design A Curtis Themed ApeCar For The Bored Ape Bimmer Club Art Contest!

Whether as a kid with a crayon and a piece of paper or an adult with a stylus and an iPad, Bored Ape Yacht Club member Bejado has been creating for years. Since joining the BAYC in April 2021 and minting Bored Ape #148 during the pre-sale, Bejado has been busy designing digital accessories like hoodies for his frens around the swamp and collaborating with his fellow Apes. Now, he’s hoping to work with the club to design a BMW that’s anything but boring!

BAYC members are heading to the polls this evening to cast their votes in the Club's Bored Ape Bimmer Club Art Contest, where one artist will be chosen to design a 1/1 ApeCar that’s anything but boring.

One of the five Bored artists whose designs are on the ballot is Bejado, who aims to create an ApeMobile based on the BAYC’s mascot Curtis!

“One of my favorite aspects of BAYC is Curtis,” Bejado wrote. “He was there on the dock with a line out waiting for us from day one, and yet he himself doesn’t actually exist on the blockchain. He’s fascinating. He’s our shepherd throughout Otherside, club lore, and globally with ApeFest. To me, he is more iconic than the skull logo. Curtis is our Mickey Mouse, and my muse for this project.”

1. How does it feel to be picked to possibly design this car?

 

“Insane for so many reasons. In a community filled with exceptionally talented artists and designers, being invited to participate was both an amazing honor and an exciting challenge. And then to realize you’re in the company of Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, and all of the other incredible artists who have been invited to design a BMW over the decades and it just becomes surreal. Those twenty iconic Art Cars are a huge source of inspiration for my concept.”

 

2. Can you tell me a bit more about your design? What was your inspiration?

 

“The name of my design is “CARTIS.” It integrates and abstracts all of Curtis’ defining traits, blending them with the distinctive bodywork of BMW to create a veritable Ape Car. The inspiration came from BMW’s legendary Art Cars, Curtis himself, and some final sources of inspiration came from some of my lifelong favorite cars in pop-culture. The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, the Mutt Cutts van from Dumb & Dumber, and Keaton’s Batmobile—these cars are more than just vehicles; they are iconic representations of their own unique personas”

 

3. Why should the community pick your design?

 

“I think CARTIS embodies the spirit and essence of the community and BMW—a bold fusion of art and innovation. Blending Curtis with BMW’s style will make for a car that’s visually striking, truly reflects the BAYC spirit, and becomes part of popular culture. But honestly this is a tough one to answer. I’d love to see all five Ape Cars lined up in Lisbon in true “fuck it” fashion.”

 

4. Do you have anything else you’d like to add or say?

 

“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone involved at BAYC and BMW for this incredible opportunity. It’s been an unexpected and exciting chapter in my ongoing Ape Story. I have to extend a massive congratulations to Pauser, Rida, and of course my pals Maggie and Popil for being selected to participate as well. Regardless of what car ends up in Lisbon we're bonded as OG Bimmer Buds for life.
