Talk about chasing the river on the river! Bored Ape Yacht Club member Amarok’s years of playing poker paid off Sunday as he went all in from the water and won the club’s first ever members only poker tournament!
Things were anything but boring on Sunday when hundreds of Apes and Mutants headed to Ape Church. But they weren’t there for prayer. They were there for poker!
Among them was BAYC member Amarok, who joined the club back in May 2025, and while he may be new around the swamp, he’s no fish at the poker table.
“I’ve played poker for a good while now. Since I was 21, I’d go to Vegas pretty often with friends to play Texas Hold ’Em,” he said. “I don’t go nearly as much anymore, but I’ve always loved the game.”
All those trips to Sin City paid off for Amarok as he played his way through the four and a half hour tourney and found himself heads up with fellow primate CliveOnChain.
“Playing against Clive (@Cliveonchain) was really fun too,” he told the Gazette. “I had a feeling he was going to be the guy I’d end up facing at the end, so it was cool seeing it actually play out that way. “
In the end, Amarok came out on top, taking home the grand prize of Mutant Ape #4006, a Gimboz, and 10,000 $APE, all while playing on his phone and enjoying a summer day on the river!
“The event was a lot of fun, lots of action all around,” he said after his win. “I was actually floating the river with some friends while playing today lol, so definitely a memorable way to get the win….I Want to give Ape Church some love too. They killed it with the platform, super smooth experience and it worked perfectly on mobile, which made it even better since I was literally playing from the river.”
Looking ahead, Amarok told the Gazette that he’s planning to keep his new Mutant for a while, but he’s always open to trading the insane Ape for one his wife might like!
