NFTs are a lot like aliens, both have a community here on Earth that wants to believe they’re real against all odds.
There was a close encounter of the Meeb kind on Sunday, as not one but two Alien Meebits beamed out of OpenSea user ZoomC’s wallet after being purchased by two different buyers: an unidentified anon and a longtime Meeb maxi named Joker.
The anonymous buyer and Joker each scooped up their new Alien, also known as a Visitor Type Meeb for 28 ETH ($82,600 USD) apiece. That’s a steep discount compared to the 300 ETH and 275 ETH ZoomC paid for them back in early May 2021.
For Joker, picking up this extraterrestrial NFT was a dream come true. He also believes the purchase will age well, given that the Meebits were created by Larva Labs, which recently saw nine of its CryptoPunks placed in the Museum of Modern Art.
“Personally Meebits were my first nft and thus have that extra meaning,” he told the paper. “They are part of what i think are the original larva labs trilogy punks/ autoglyphs / meebits. With new stewardship under meebco i feel its just a matter of time for meebs . I am huge believer in nfts still and feel we are in an amazing opportunity to acquired rare nfts . And nothing rarer in my mind than a visitor meebit. (I cant wait to play it in otherside tbh).”
Following the sales, MeebCo owner Sergito took to the timeline to congratulate the buyers on acquiring two of just 18 Visitor-type Meebits in existence.
“Two Larva Labs generative sculptures sell for $164k in depths of bear market, making them the highest NFT sales of the last 24 hours and Top 5 of the last week (alongside Punks and a Quine),” he said.
The Gazette will continue to follow all things Meebits and will keep you posted on what’s next for the Voxels. Stay tuned for updates!
