An out-of-this-world CryptoPunk has landed in a new wallet this evening after Chain CEO Deepak Thapliyal sold his iconic Alien Punk over the counter to an unknown buyer for an undisclosed amount!

Two and a half years after blasting the NFT market into the stratosphere by spending 8,000 ETH, or $23.7 million USD, on CryptoPunk #5822, Deepak announced that he had sold the legendary NFT in a brief tweet.

“End of an Era,” he wrote. “#5822, Enjoy your new (Home emoji).”

 

CryptoPunk #5822 is a one attribute Alien type Punk with a bandana. Based on these traits, CryptoPunk #5822 is the 8th rarest CryptoPunk, according to Rarity Tools.

But rarity isn’t the only thing that makes CryptoPunk #5822 special—it’s also steeped in out-of-this-world lore. This extravesicular Punk holds the title of the most expensive NFT ever purchased, earning it a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. It was also the poster piece in Tiffany & Co.'s NFTiff collection and was featured in Jack Butcher's Checks collection.
