From needing a jack to winning a Mutant Ape with a pair of jacks!

It was an eventful Sunday for Bored Ape Yacht Club member and Mingles Tequila Founder Memo as he won ApeChurch’s first ever cross community poker tournament with a pair of Jacks!

As 500 holders from Geez, Chimpers, Balloons, HV-MTL, Otherdeeds, Meebits, Quirkies, Gimboz, and Dengs were turning on some football, cracking open a cold one, and getting ready to play poker with their online frens, Memo was stuck on the side of the road dealing with a flat tire and wondering if he’d even make it to the digital tables!

“I was driving towards the tequila distillery when I had a flat tire,” he told the Gazette. “Tournament started while they were fixing it. So I played on the laptop connected to the phone.”

For Memo, the flat tire came at a strange moment. It was his second in a week, and just days earlier he had gotten much better news, he and his family are expecting a baby. So while another roadside headache may have taken some of the air out of his Sunday, he wasn’t about to let it ruin the day.

Memo took his online seat, caught a few good hands, and got blessed with a little luck before eventually making his way to the distillery, where he fully locked in.

“I love poker, kept playing, I was winning good hands And I thought to myself omg could this be? God being good with us,” he said. “We just got great news anything else was extra.”

Turns out God was being good to him! Memo would go on to make it to the final table, where he won Mutant Ape #29466 with a pair of jacks against ace king, proving God has a sense of humor considering he needed a jack just hours earlier!

“Gods is good,” Memo said. “I feel grateful to him for all good things that have been happening to us this last couple months… It’s been a rough year building web3 so this is a good incentive to keep pushing. It’s easy to be disappointed out here. Losing money being scammed etc so this situations always pump you up!”

Looking ahead, Memo told the paper that he plans to hold onto his new Mutant for his baby and give it to them when they turn 16. But for now, he will be delegating it to his Mingles Community Manager and friend Marshal.

“He is a beast as community manager always looking for a gig and he has supported us when things go right and or wrong,” Memo said. “He’ll make a great new MAYC member.”

The Gazette will continue to follow Memo as he keeps building in Web3 and beyond and will let you know when ApeChurch hosts its next freeroll poker tournament. Stay tuned for updates!
