As billions get ready to tune into the World Cup later this week to cheer on their nation as it takes the pitch, the Meebits are hoping to score some mindshare with a full squad of activations that onchain soccer fans will get a kick out of. And the best part? You can get in on all of it by minting a Meebits Futbol avatar tonight.
This week, the Meebits officially launched their all new Futbol dApp, combining NFT minting mechanics with the world's most popular sport and biggest sporting event.
“Meebits take on the beautiful game,” the project wrote. “The biggest sporting event is more than something to watch. With Meebits Futbol, it is something to collect, play, and compete in.”
"From daily livestreams hosted by MeebCo CEO Sergito and LSU starting goalkeeper Sophie Kevorkian, to prediction markets, bracket challenges, fantasy futbol, and digital sticker albums, Meebits Futbol is looking to give fans plenty of ways to engage throughout the five and a half week tournament, with prizes ranging from ETH to Meebits NFTs up for grabs along the way.
“Meebits Fútbol brings together Meebits IP and the world’s biggest sporting event to give fans a new way to collect, play, and engage with the World Cup,” Sergitio told the Gazette. “At the center of the project are Meebits Fútbol Collectibles, which are hybrid digital trading card style NFTs and Otherside avatars representing 30 of the 42 countries playing in the World Cup. These collectibles also unlock separate games of skill outside of Otherside. Collectors can use their Meebits Fútbol NFTs to enter the Bracket Challenge or Fútbol Fantasy competitions, with prizes ranging from ETH to Meebits NFTs.”
To get in on the action, NFT collectors and soccer fans alike are invited to mint their own soccer playing Meeb for .01 ETH, or roughly $16 USD.
Looking ahead, Sergito and the team are slated to attend this week's BAYC Meet at the Clubhouse on Thursday at 9 a.m. EST to talk more about Meebits Futbol and kick off the World Cup with their frens around the swamp.
