FROM POG TO PRIMATE: BAYC Member Rooster Pulls A Mutant Ape Out Of A Pog Pack!

Bored Ape Yacht Club member Rooster may have missed the POG insanity of the ’90s, but he was there for the game’s crypto comeback in 2025 and he has a new Mutant Ape to prove it!

Born in the ’70s and raised in the ’80s, Rooster missed out on the cardboard disc craze that took over the playground in the ’90s. At that time, he wasn’t slamming stacks or chasing POGs featuring ALF, Cola, or other classic characters, he was studying.

“I was struggling getting through engineering school so the last thing I would have been doing is getting into a middle school game. never hit my radar," he said.

But while POGs weren’t on his radar back then, collecting always was. Over the years, Rooster aped into baseball cards, got hooked on Smurfs, and later in life, he found NFTs and joined the Bored Ape Yacht Club in 2023.

So when POG Digital announced earlier this month that it was making its new onchain home on ApeChain, Rooster’s collector instincts kicked in. He began completing quests and collecting POG packs across the timeline. In total, he accumulated 80 packs and on his 33rd rip this past Friday, something insane happened.

“I was feeling quite incredulous last night after I opened the pack. It took me a few minutes to get a ticket opened in the POG Discord for verification – but Pogtern verified everything and now I believe it,” he told the Gazette. “I truly couldn’t be happier, and the outpouring of congratulations and excitement from the community has been overwhelming. You can feel the cultural vibes flowing out of ApeChain – very cool.”

 

Rooster’s new primate was Mutant Ape #2786, an M1 dark brown fur Mutant with coin eyes, and a sushi headband!

 

This new Ape is Rooster’s third primate, and now he's facing a classic collector’s dilemma that’s come up many times before, keep it or sell?

“I feel compelled to keep this M1 and possibly sell my M1 DMT…. But I grow attached to NFTs. I have built up names and backstories for each of them and built Otherpages for them – it’s a problem really,” he said. “I feel the proper/responsible thing to do is to sell a Mutant and fully stake 2 of them, then use what ever is left over to pick up a few more ApeChain projects. It might depend on how sick the new M1 3D model looks…. And if I feel a connection. Once it is transferred to my Vault I will get into DashBo and play with it.”

 

While Rooster weighs his options, he already Pogged out his new primate on Bored Closet and wanted the community to know one thing, no matter what, the money stays in the $Ape ecosystem and that he’s a Pogger for life.

 

 

“If I do sell it, or one of my MAYCs, I will bring the liquid back to Apechain and stake and pick up some more ApeChain projects, he said. :And of course what ever POG drops. This was a great strategy for building new community members.”
