Can pigs fly? No,but they can drive on ApeChain!
Pigs were zooming across a Mario Kart-style racetrack in the rocky mountains during ApeCoin’s ApeDen event, where this high-speed hog racing game won a grant to bring its augmented reality mobile experience to ApeChain! And now, Apes and $Ape holders can check it out for themselves today!
Last month, game producer Johnny’s Tontachi Augmented Reality Racing Game, developed in collaboration with Niantic Labs (the company behind Pokémon GO) and supported by Animoca Brands, won the ApeCoin DAO’s first-ever ApeDen Builders event, securing a grant of up to 15,000 $APE!
“Congrats @johnnyokami_ for bringing @tontachiAR to ApeChain and winning the ApeDEN Builder Challenge Grand Prize,” the DAO tweeted earlier this week “A mix of Pokémon SNAP & Mario Kart, TontachiAR is an AR-powered, geolocation-based racer that will be building alongside our thriving NFT community ON APECHAIN.”
“It’s a great feeling to win the ApeDen challenge,” Johnny told the Gazette. “Albeit the ApeChain integration is super new, we’ve been working on Tontachi for a while so the Win is recognition I’m elated to receive. I’ve been a blockchain game dev since 2018 and was inspired by early forms of interoperability. Tontachi at its core is meant to amplify projects and allow for a hodgepodge of characters to interact with each other. That’s why we say the game is like MarioKart, or Mario Party for that matter. The game literally translates to “Pig friends” in Japanese.”
At its core, Tontachi is a racing game that invites players to hop on a hog and race for the bacon while also incorporating an augmented reality feature that lets players take “pigtures” of their pigs in the real world!
“tontachi is an ambitious project and we’re a small team, but I think I’ve discovered the solution to the proper balance of web3 and AR tech, and tbh ApeChain is the final element. Community, and a cool one at that,” Johnny said.
