“I FELT SICK TO MY STOMACH”: BAYC Collector And EMS Helicopter Crew Member SaylorEnergy Wakes Up To His Apes Gone After Friday’s Exploit!

When people first hear about someone losing their NFTs, many picture celebrities and multimillionaires buying JPEGs for fun. But not everyone in this space is rich. Many people got in early, got a little lucky, held through the years, and have worked hard every single day to help make this space and the world around them a better place.
One of those people is Bored Ape Yacht Club member SaylorEnergy, who works on an EMS helicopter crew.
Last night, he was up in the sky helping others like he always does. He came home, went to bed, and woke up to some of the worst news imaginable: his Apes were gone.
“I felt sick to my stomach,” he told the Gazette. “ Working man here who loves web3. Been in the space since 2021…I participate in the @otherside level 60, follow @figge, I am in. Paid for a @danielarsham avatar. I really enjoy Bored Apes Global reach and taking part in the tech and talking with others in this space. I am invested with Holo's in HV_MTL. Daily, it excites me to be a part of the community. Feel like we are a bunch of underdogs who only get noticed occasionally. The last thing I needed, was some scammer to steal my Apes along with others.”
This wasn’t the result of a social engineering attack or a bad link click on SaylorEnergy’s part. His two primates were stolen in a broader systemic exploit caused by a vulnerability in Limit Break’s Payment Processor contracts used by marketplaces like Magic Eden and OSWiki.
“It's one thing when you fall for a scam or you clicked on a link,” he said. “I have priced something wrong and sent an nft without getting paid. I have made mistakes along this journey of NFTs. I bought a ledger and try to be safe.”
For Saylor, losing his Apes wasn’t just about losing two valuable NFTs. It felt like losing a piece of himself.
“These Apes in particular I hold near and dear to my heart,” he said. “I look up to Adam Weitsman, so I have the Punk jacket and the pilot helmet. I look up to Elon Musk, so my space suit is my happy place. The crazy eyes is usually how I feel trying to keep up with all the projects and innovations. I just want be a part of a Club that is building, hosting events, and maybe someday truly changing my life financially. It's been a very emotional day for me. I have had to stay calm, trust in others, and hope for the best.”
Luckily for SaylorEnergy and thousands of other collectors, this story will have a happy ending.
Yuga Labs’ Vice President of Blockchain, 0xQuit, was able to rescue not only SaylorEnergy’s two Bored Apes, but more than 23,000 other NFTs worth a collective $6 million in a daring white hat operation.
“The fact that yugalabs, 0xQuit where on guard and were able to rescue my online identity…,” SaylorEnergy said. “I wish the scammer would have reached out and told the right people, hey I found a security problem here with Magic eden. Hurt my heart, that people have even more invested than I do. We rise and fall together.”
Tonight, collectors like SaylorEnergy are waiting for 0xQuit to open his NFTs Are Safu portal, where affected holders will be able to reclaim their rescued NFTs once the compromised approvals have been revoked.
