The age old question, “What the fuck is a Koda?” got some answers on Wednesday after it was revealed that they’ll be a flex this summer and may gain more utility as the Otherside rolls out through 2025 and beyond!

Koda context was the talk of the Otherside Discord yesterday after Yuga Labs CEO Garga dropped sme major info about the metaverse’s mystical native inhabitants and what holders can expect in the near future.

“Kodas exist at the heart of Otherside, and Nexus is their homeworld,” Garga wrote. “For the summer releases, the utility is more about the flex of being one of the 10k and getting access to certain parts of Nexus that others can't enter (including an inner sanctum that's only Mega Kodas). They are also hard as fuck to shoot in Bathroom Blitz fwiw. Further gameplay utility is being explored for Kodas for the winter release.”

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, Garga and the Otherside team have been revealing more and more about Kodas and their homeworld of Nexus in the lead up to the rollout of Otherside’s persistent metaverse this summer; and it sounds insane!

“Nexus is massive, with a temple at its center and various districts dedicated to different things. Team has put a ton of love into the details for it, did a playthrough of it yesterday and a bunch of stuff even surprised me,” Garga said last week. “In the same way BAYC island or Meetropolis had lots of easter eggs and hidden aspects, Nexus has that on steroids. We were really trying to make the city that would be Otherside's Orgrimmar or Stormwind.”

At this time, there’s still a lot we don’t know about Kodas and Nexus, but we do know Nexus will play a key role in the first time user experience when the metaverse goes live this summer. We also know that it’s built on top of a Chaos Otherdeed, includes elements from every Otherdeed biome, and features portals that connect the realms.

“Think of Nexus as the ancestral home of the Kodas, with an enormous Koda temple at its center,” Garga wrote in January 2025. “It’s the central hub for all Otherside, connecting realms and biomess through a vast network of portals. in its prime, Nexus was illuminated by Soma, which is the creation energy you saw Blue bottling up in the Otherside B.C. trailer but chaos, the other energy we see in the trailer and throughout Otherside, has really fucked the place up these days.... it is a Chaos environment but a major city similar to Meetropolis. it's near the site of the temple we see in the second Otherside trailer."

Everyone can take a closer look at Nexus today by rewatching Yuga Labs’ Otherside B.C. (Before Curtis) trailer on YouTube, first released in September 2022:

The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow all things Koda and Nexus and will keep you posted as more information about the Otherside is released. Stay tuned!
