The summer election season of 2024 is underway at the ApeCoin DAO, with seven ApeCoin DAO contributors running to be the community’s next Marketing and Communications working Group Steward. Among the candidates vying for this position is ShotgunTobi.
“As a Filipina, my experiences have affirmed my belief in access and the value of diversity,” ShotgunTobi wrote on her candidate page. "This is what fascinates me most about ApeCoin DAO: collective ownership and democratized access to resources. While the systems in place are not perfect, ideas are evaluated on merit rather than arbitrary standards. Diversity has consistently helped me collaborate effectively and excel as a team player. I believe diverse perspectives are essential for innovation and achieving shared goals.Commitment is something I take seriously. If elected, I will dedicate my full effort to the role. My track record shows a dedication to delivering high-quality work, and those I’ve worked with can attest to my reliability and standards.”
To find out more about ShotgunTobi and why she is the right $Ape for the job, the Bored Ape Gazette reached out to her for an interview. Check it out below:
1. In a sentence or two what is your candidacy all about?
“My candidacy is focused on enhancing communication channels within the ApeCoin DAO, making it easier for new members to engage and for the broader community to celebrate and promote ApeCoin. I aim to complement the existing MarComms team with my execution skills, collaborative approach, and deep understanding of the DAO's operations.”
2. Why did you decide to run for $Ape office?
“I decided to run for office because I genuinely believe in the power and potential of our community. After working behind the scenes and witnessing the amazing things we can achieve together, I felt it was the right moment to step up and contribute more directly. I want to help make the DAO even more inclusive and engaging, so everyone feels welcome and inspired to contribute their unique strengths.”
3. What makes you the right $Ape for the job?
“My background in project management, creativity, and graphic design skills equips me to deliver on marketing initiatives and community engagements. I am the right candidate because of my hands-on experience with the DAO, my understanding of its operations, and my proven track record. My vision aligns with the DAO's goals and complements the existing Working Group. I aim to fit in and work well with the team, not just on my own.”
4. What would you like to accomplish during your term?
“During my term, I aim to streamline the onboarding process for new members, enhance internal and external communication channels, and implement initiatives that celebrate and promote ApeCoin. I plan to achieve this through collaboration across Working Groups rather than just within them.”
5. Why is becoming a Working Group Steward important for you personally?
“Coming from a "third world" country and working in a global environment, I’ve often felt like I’ve limited myself in the roles I can take on, despite knowing my capabilities. Do I have the competence, experience, and commitment to become a Working Group Steward? Absolutely. Even though it scares me and impostor syndrome can sometimes get in the way, I want to prove to myself that I can overcome these challenges. Becoming a Steward and delivering on my plans is a personal goal, and I am determined to serve the community to the best of my abilities.”
6. What kind of marketing would you like to see the DAO do?
“I’d like to see the DAO build a strong and powerful brand that communicates the essence of ApeCoin effectively, leveraging storytelling to engage both current members and potential new ones. With the upcoming Web 3 Development Working Group and ApeChain, awareness of ApeCoin should grow even more. The DAO should be equipped with a system that onboards members and highlights the right areas for involvement.”
7. How would you increase transparency at the DAO?
"To increase transparency, I would advocate for regular updates and open communication channels, ensuring that all members are informed about ongoing projects, decisions, and opportunities for involvement. I would also support initiatives that provide clear documentation and accessible resources for all members.”
8. How did you get into crypto?
“In January 2021, I realized my earned salary could be more productive than sitting in a savings bank account. I explored crypto in March, tried it out, and got hooked. By October, I was into SOL NFTs and later ETH NFTs. I started moderating for popular projects, resigned from my corporate job, and the rest is history.”
9. What do you like to do outside of Web3?
“I enjoy improv, wall-climbing, finding delicious places to eat (although I’m currently learning how to cook), and hanging out with friends and family. Also, if I were in the same country as my dogs, I’d add hanging out with them to the list!”
