ON THE BALLOT: This AIP Seeks To Pause This Winter’s Special Council Election Season Until After The DAO Votes On A Key Governance Reform Proposal!

There’s an Ape Improvement Proposal on the ballot this cycle aiming to pause December’s Special Council election season until after the DAO votes on an important AIP that would bring major changes to the DAO’s governance, including ending the Special Council.

Historically, November and December have been election season for the ApeCoin DAO. However, AIP-552, titled “Pausing Special Council Elections Pending the Outcome of the Governance Revamp AIP Vote” and authored by Special Council member Waabam, seeks to delay this year's elections until after the community votes on significant governance reforms later this year.

“The APE Foundation has recently posted a proposal to revamp ApeCoin DAO governance, entitled “ApeChain, On-chain – ApeCoin DAO Governance Revamp,” Waabam wrote. “That proposal would eliminate Special Council elections, sunsetting the role of Special Council entirely. It can be found here: ApeChain, On-chain – ApeCoin DAO Governance Revamp. This AIP proposes to pause Special Council elections, pending the outcome of the proposal entitled “ApeChain, On-chain – ApeCoin DAO Governance Revamp.”

 

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, the “ApeChain, On-chain – ApeCoin DAO Governance Revamp” proposal would transfer 65% of the DAO’s treasury to ApeChain, replace the Special Council with a new Security Council, and overhaul the Ape Improvement Proposal process. The new process would be an eight-phase, 27- to 37-day on-chain journey that includes requirements for community support, community temperature checks, KYC, and contract negotiations before reaching a DAO-wide vote.

“This proposal benefits the ApeCoin ecosystem by respecting the time, resources, and energy of the ApeCoin DAO community members who might wish to run for Special Council,” Waabam continued in AIP 552. “As well as the time, resources, and energy of ApeCoin DAO community members who might wish to vote for and learn about Special Council nominees.”

 

If passed, AIP-552 would not cost the DAO anything and would delay this year’s Special Council election season—potentially canceling it, depending on the results of the governance revamp vote.
