ON THE BALLOT: This AIP Wants To Change The ApeCoin's Logo From A Blue Ape Skull To ApeChain's Gorilla

Going Gorilla or staying Ape-ish? The ApeCoin DAO is heading to the polls this voting cycle to decide whether to change its logo from the iconic Blue Bored Ape Skull to the new Gorilla logo that debuted on X during ApeChain’s October launch.

Ape Improvement Proposal 555 titled Rebranding ApeCoin: Transition from Ape Skull to New Gorilla Logo” is a process proposal submitted by former Special Council member and Banana Bill Advisor Captain Trippy. It asks the community whether the DAO should update its branding to differentiate itself from the Bored Ape Yacht Club and showcase that ApeChain is for all Apes—not just Bored Apes.

“This rebranding initiative aims to refresh the ApeCoin identity, aligning it with the evolving vision and values of the ApeCoin ecosystem while also enhancing its visual appeal and recognition within the broader crypto community,” Captain Trippy wrote. “This AIP also aims to make a more clear distinction between the BAYC community and the DAO community. With the launch of ApeChain, the DAO now has its north star and I believe it is important for it to have its own unique brand/ identity. Updating the logo achieves that objective while also signaling that both the DAO and ApeChain is the place to ape for all, and not just BAYC.”

If passed, AIP-555 will not cost the DAO anything monetarily. The Ape Foundation will handle updating the website, social media, marketing materials, and any third-party platforms showcasing the token. Additionally, the DAO will make a formal announcement regarding the change, according to Captain Trippy.

The voting window for AIP-555 is now open, and ApeCoin DAO contributors have until Wednesday, December 4th to cast their votes on this proposal.
