ON THE BALLOT: This AIP Wants To Introduce 'Weighted Choice' Voting To The Second Round Of The DAO's Working Group Elections. Find Out More:

Updated: May 7

As the ApeCoin DAO’s summer election season begins, there is an Ape Improvement Proposal on the ballot this cycle that seeks to change the second round of voting in the Working Group races from single-choice voting to weighted choice, where voters could spread their coins' voting power across multiple candidates!

AIP-412 titled ‘Streamlining Working Group Elections: Improved Second-Round Voting Strategy’ is a Process Proposal written by Governance Working Group Steward AllCityBAYC.

“This no-cost proposal provides a solution for an element of second-round voting during ApeCoin DAO Working Group elections that currently restricts voters to selecting only one candidate when multiple seats for the same positions are being filled,” he wrote.

In AIP-412, AllCity hopes to make the second round of Working Group Steward elections more like the races’ first rounds where voters can cast their coins for as many or few candidates as they like.

“It is important to note that we are already using this method of voting in the first-round of Working Group elections,” he said. “Furthermore, under this format should you favor our existing second-round standard of single-choice voting, you can still concentrate all of your voting power on one candidate. We’re simply offering an alternative for those who wish to have a broader influence across all positions being filled.”

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, the current ApeCoin voting system consists of two rounds. In the first round, ApeCoin DAO contributors can cast their coins for as many or as few candidates as they want in each race, and the five candidates receiving the most votes move on to the second round. During the second round, $Ape holders return to the polls and cast their coins for their single favorite candidate in each election, regardless of the number of positions available.

If passed, AIP-412’s new weighted voting system will go into effect during this summer’s Working Group elections, according to AllCity.

Please note that this AIP will not affect the DAO’s Special Council races. The second round of that election will continue to use single-choice voting, regardless of the outcome of this proposal.

The window to vote on AIP-412 is currently open and ApeCoin DAO Contributors have until Wednesday, May 15th, to cast their coins and vote on this proposal.

The Bored Ape Gazette is working to find out more about AIP-412 and is working to bring you an interview with AllCity later this week. Stay tuned for updates!
