OUT OF THIS WORLD: Anonymous Crypto Whale Buys Alien CryptoPunk for 4,000 ETH or $6 Million

Things were out of this world on Thursday when an anonymous crypto whale purchased an extraterrestrial CryptoPunk for 4,000 ETH or $6 million USD.

 

As global market chaos continued on Thursday, with traditional indices like the DOW and S&P down 2.5 and 3.5 percent respectively, an anonymous crypto whale blasted off 4,000 ETH from a Coinbase Prime account to purchase CryptoPunk #3100, according to Etherscan data.

 

CryptoPunk #3100 is a one-attribute Alien Punk with a headband. Based on these traits, CryptoPunk #3100 is ranked as the third most Punk CryptoPunk, according to Magic Eden.

This anon’s purchase comes just 13 months after a different anonymous whale bought CryptoPunk #3100 for 4,500 ETH or $16 million USD in March 2024, making this a 500 ETH or $10 million USD loss depending on how you look at it.

“Are punks priced in ETH or USD,” Legendary CryptoPunks trader PunksOTC tweeted after the deal. “Some people laughed when the previous owner of this sold it for a $8,000,000 profit, but only 300 eth. Most recent owner lost 500 eth but lost over $10,000,000. Is this the largest ever realized loss on an NFT?”

 

 

While conversations about this intergalactic JPEG continue, we still do not know who the Punk’s new owner is. But what we do know is that the deal was brokered by crypto art broker Fountain.
