Q&A: This Ape Improvement Proposal Aims To Let AIPs Go On The Ballot Alongside Special Council Votes

This week, the ApeCoin DAO will decide whether Ape Improvement Proposals can be voted on alongside Special Council elections or if they prefer to let Special Council election votes stand alone, as they cast their coins.

AIP-372 titled ‘Enable AIP Voting During Elections,’ is a process proposal written by ApeCoin DAO Contributor and Discourse Facilitator, CryptoLogically.

“AIP-138 Established the following during elections: ‘No other AIPs will go up for vote at this Weekly AIP Release, and all approved AIPs for vote will be released at the following Weekly AIP Release.’ This proposal would remove this requirement, thus enabling any AIP ready for vote during this (and any) period to be posted regardless of election cadence,” CryptoLogically wrote.

If AIP-372 is passed, AIPs that are ready to go up for a vote next week, as well as future AIPs ready for a vote during subsequent elections, will be allowed to do so.

To find out more about AIP-372 and the impact that this proposal could have on the community, the Gazette reached out to CryptoLogically for an interview. Check it out below:

1. What is your AIP all about?

“AIP-138 established that no AIPs are to be put to vote during the two weeks of each Special Council election period. My AIP, 372, would eliminate that restriction and would allow any AIP that's ready to be put to vote to go to Snapshot if the author so chooses.”

2. What inspired you to write this proposal?

“As a community member, as well as a Discourse Facilitator, it's always struck me as unfortunate that authors aren't provided the opportunity to have their proposals go to vote during SC elections after undertaking the potentially lengthy AIP process. I'd like to see if the community agrees with me here.”

3. Why did the DAO originally not allow AIPs to go up for a vote alongside Special Council elections?

“No explicit reason is provided in AIP-138, so this answer is largely up to conjecture. One explanation may be to direct all DAO attention to the SC election process, which in my opinion is unnecessary and unjust for authors whose proposals would otherwise be ready for vote during this time.”

4. Why is allowing AIPs to be voted on during Special Council elections important?

“As the lifeblood of our ecosystem, it's important for AIP authors to have their proposals go to vote when they're ready. AIPs need not be held up by election season. The sheer number of votes on this proposal, as well as those for the MarComms and Metaverse Working Group Stewards, is evidence that the voters are more than capable of meaningfully participating in AIP voting and election season simultaneously.”

5. Do you have anything else you’d like to add or say?

“Vote "For" on AIP-372!”

The window to vote on AIP-372 is currently open and ApeCoin DAO Contributors have until tonight at 9 P.M. EST to cast their coins and vote on AIP-372.
