QUALIFICATIONS OVER FRIENDSHIPS: Former ApeCoin Steward Dim.Eth Warns Against Popularity Contests In This Summer’s Special Council Race!

As Apes and $Apes throw their hats in the ring and announce their candidacies for the three open Special Council positions this summer, former ApeCoin Metaverse Working Group Steward Dim.eth is urging voters to prioritize qualifications over friendships.

Election Season 2025 is in full swing across the $Ape ecosystem after the DAO opened nominations for this summer’s Special Council race, inviting anyone and everyone to ape in!

 

“ApeCoin Special Council is more than a title,” the DAO tweeted yesterday. “This is your moment to lead from the front, connect communities, and fuel meaningful growth across ApeCoin and ON APECHAIN.”

 

As $Ape holders mull over potential runs for DAO office, Dim, who’s also considering a run , told the Gazette that this summer’s election is a crucial one. He urged voters to take it seriously and said he hopes qualified Apes step up to help push $Ape forward.

“What we learned in the past 3 years is that electing people just out of popularity and friendship does not work,” he said. “It’s also dangerous. Special Council was supposed to be sunsetted just like Working Groups in the initial version of the DAO Governance Revamp AIP, now they are back on the table so let’s not make the same mistakes as before.”

 

Unlike in years past, Special Council members are no longer tasked with reviewing Ape Improvement Proposals. Instead, they’ll be focused on moving Ape culture forward.

“The perfect candidate is someone dedicated and hard worker, no need to be the loudest on the timeline, actions speaks louder than words,” Dim said. “Someone that has proven their added value to the community and made real impact.”

No matter how this election plays out or which three community members are elected to serve on the ApeCoin Special Council, Dim.eth hopes those chosen act transparently, take their jobs seriously, and are held accountable by the Ape Foundation.

“The scope of the role is now way more detailed and precise than before with a clear list of requirements,” he said. “It’s a big step forward, what is missing and what I hope we will get clarity on before the actual election is the oversight and transparency to the community. People need to be accountable and there is no mention of reporting for the role. We saw it previously with Special Council and Working Groups, people being elected that were not able to produce any track record of their work.”
