Creativity took center stage on Earth as the Del Mundos announced the three winners of its first ever community art contest.
Just three weeks after arriving onchain, the Del Mundos invited artists from across its growing community to put their digital pens to paper and compete in the collection’s inaugural fan art event!
The competition was fierce and dozens of submissions poured in, but in the end Handshake by Cap’n Cookie, Everest by Tomato, and Crazy Psychedelic Piece by Herb were crowned the winners.
Thanks @D3lMundosfor choosing one of my submissions in the first community art competition,” Cap’n Cookie tweeted. “I’m truly stoked to have won, especially given the quality of entries by everyone who participated.”
After his win, Cap’n Cookie told the Gazette that while he missed the Del Mundos mint back in January, he’s happy he got involved and excited to now be part of the project’s early history through his artwork.
“As a baby boomer with background in art and music, I actually only started playing with AI a couple of months ago so I was delighted to have won the community art competition,” he said.
While he’s new to creating art with AI, Cap’n is no stranger to NFTs. He owns assets across multiple collections and is heavily involved in the A Kid Called Beast ecosystem, and he credits their community for getting him into making digital art!
“I’m a whale in the community holding a number of grails including the 1:1 I’ve got as my PFP; it’s this creative community that led me into playing with Blender & latterly AI,” he said.I” hold plenty of NFTs from other projects but I’m particularly partial to 3D art & loved the innovative concept of the Mundos being hand crafted & photographed
While the prizes for Cap’n and the others winners have not yet been announced yet, the Del Mundos have already launched another contest, this time focused on physical artwork.
“Now we want to see what you can do in real life,” the project wrote. “Same Del Mundos energy, but this time interpret Del Mundos using a physical medium of your choice. Use any type of art, handmade creations like mosaic, clay, handsaws, sculpture, or any physical IRL style you want to explore.”
The new contest is open now, with submissions running through Tuesday, February 17. For more information, check out the Del Mundos Discord!
The Gazette will continue to follow all things Del Mundos and will let you know which works win the latest contest next week. Stay tuned for updates!
