This Charity Is Teaching Bored Apes About Real Life Primates At NFT NYC:
As Bored Apes turn up and network their way through NFT NYC, the Orangutan Outreach is hosting an event to teach degen apes about real life primates!
“Confirmed: We’ll be presenting about #BoredApe Julius & our “Bored in Borneo” reforestation campaign next week at #NFTNYC on Wed morning,” the Orangutan Outreach tweeted earlier this week. “Hope to see you there!”
The “Bored in Borneo” is a campaign led by the Orangutan Outreach and its mascot, Julius AKA Bored Ape #2238, with the goal of protecting the only two places Orangutan’s live.
“Orangutans only live in two places: the islands of Borneo and Sumatra,” according to the charity’s website. “Sumatra is the westernmost island in the Indonesian archipelago. Borneo is a massive island that is shared between Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. The majority of wild orangutans live in the Indonesian provinces, referred to locally as Kalimantan. In recent years, both islands have been devastated by deforestation, mining and land conversion. Pristine old growth rainforest has been turned into oil palm plantations for as far as the eye can see.”
The Orangutan Outreach told the Bored ape Gazette that they really appreciate the BAYC’s support over the past year and that they plan to help a lot of real-life orangutans going forward!
As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, the BAYC has donated over $500,000 USD to the charity from its Bored Ape Kennel Club sales back in July and August of 2021.
"The Bored Ape Yacht Club was very generous with their financial support for Orangutan Outreach last year,” the charity told the Bored Ape Gazette. “We are now putting those funds to work. For the first phase of Bored in Borneo, we are growing 200+ acres of Borneo rainforest from seedlings. If you want to change the world, change the landscAPE." "We hope that our brother and sister Bored Apes & Mutants will want to help protect critically endangered apes in the real world -- and support our Bored in Borneo campaign. Apes together strong."
If you’re interested in finding out more about the Orangutan Outreach, the charity is set to present this Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Edison Ballroom South at the NFT NYC conference. This event is open to everyone who has a ticket to NFT NYC.
