X doesn’t mark the spot in the Bored Ape Yacht Club’s latest artwork, but it’s still dope and it could be leading to something. However, it’s not the treasure hunt from Yuga Labs Co-Founder Gordon Goner, who announced that his treasure hunt idea is on pause as he focuses on his health!

Things were anything but boring on Thursday when the Bored Ape Yacht Club shared a new image of Curtis, Garga, and Gordon Goner exploring what appeared to be a Yugaverse-themed lost city of Atlantis beneath the sea.

Apes took to the timeline to do what they do best, speculate. The timeline quickly filled with theories, not just about the latest image but also about the series of BAYC posts over the last few months, from Curtis’ “locked in” post in January to last week’s rocky mountain high tweet.
“Treasure Hunt,” BAYC member MudTooth tweeted referring to Goner’s treasure hunt post from August 2024. “The new project by Bored Ape Yacht Club that was mentioned by @GordonGoner a few months ago it's getting closer.”
While speculation keeps things fun, Goner jumped into the conversation to set the record straight. He confirmed that these posts have nothing to do with his treasure hunt idea and revealed that his health has taken a turn for the worse, requiring him to step back.
“Unfortunately I’m not working on anything at all except my health,” he tweeted in response to MudTooth. “Things really crashed again a while back and I’m struggling. These images have nothing to do with anything I worked on. The bones of a great treasure hunt and a few decks my team made are there if Yuga ever wants to work on it. Trying to stay off social media as much as I can, but answering this because I see way too much speculation about my involvement in things.”
While Goner clarified that these images aren’t part of his treasure hunt, that doesn’t mean they’re just random art. The BAYC retweeted a post from BAYC Hiisver, who compiled all four images and asked: “Who can crack the secret code hidden behind these images?”
