From physical cards like Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering to a possible future filled with AI created collectibles, Moonbirds CEO Spencer believes the next great trading card genre could be AI generated, and he’s giving everyone the chance to get in on the action for just two bucks!

On Monday, Spencer stopped by Bored Ape Yacht Club member FFV’s podcast, where he discussed Moonbirds’ new fully AI generated cartoon series, Birb Origins, and its physical trading card tie in featuring characters from the show each week.

There, Spencer explained why he believes AI generated trading cards could eventually become an entirely new collectible category.

“My bet is that in 5-10 years there will be an entire category of AI card collectibles and  non- AI card collectibles.  Both will have lots of merit,” he said.  “But we can’t be the earliest non- AI card collectibles, that’s Magic The Gathering. That ship is gone, that was 1993. Too late. But we can be basically the first AI cards. So if you believe AI collectibles will be a genre at some point, wouldn’t you want basically the earliest ones for $2? And if I’m wrong, its two bucks. If it goes to zero at least you have the card!”

As the Gazette previously reported, betting on AI generated storytelling and collectibles has become a major part of Moonbirds’ broader vision for IP, crypto, and expanding beyond the nest of Web3 to spread its wings into mainstream culture.

“The reason NFTs will win in the long run is because IP development is an actual use case for crypto,” Spencer prevously tweeted on April 27th. “Many other things in the space will fail because they are over financialized and don’t solve a real problem. Defi fails when the risk outweighs the yeild. NFTs can only fail if the IP becomes irrelevant. North Korea can increase the risk of your defi protocol, but it cannot dilute the relevance of your IP. Lesson there.”

The Gazette will continue to follow Moonbirds as they roll out new AI generated physical trading cards and will let you know when you can add the next ones to your collection. Stay tuned for updates!
