APE COIN: Check Out Some Highlights From Last Night's Ape Coin Twitter Space With The DAO's Board
Yesterday evening, Ape Coin held a Twitter Space hosted by Farokh to introduce the Web3 and ApeCoin community to the DAO’s Board and discussed the board’s views on the Bored Ape Yacht Club and its’ vision for the future.
As the bored Ape Gazette previously reported, as part of its ApeCoin announcement and DAO structure, the Bored Ape Yacht Club introduced the community to the Ape Foundation and a special council of the Ape Foundation dubbed the DAO’s Board.
The Board “provides, at the behest of the ApeCoin DAO members, oversight of the Foundation administrators, the ApeCoin website states. “The purpose of the Board is to administer DAO proposals and serve the vision of the community. It meets on proposals requiring administrative review under ApeCoin DAO rules.”
The first members of the DAO’s Board are, Alexis Ohanian, Amy Wu, Maaria Bajwa, Yat Siu and Dean Steinbeck.
During tonight’s Twitter space, the DAO members and Fraokh discussed culture and where the board see’s the DAO going forward.
During the talk, Chairman of Animoca Brands, Yat Siu, compared bored apes to superhero’s and explained how the apes have captured the zeitgeist of what the current NFT culture is right now.
“Bored apes as a culture represents this generation,” Siu said.” This zeitgeist, this sort of moment where you know it's the expression of the current culture of where we are with what NFTs mean, so it's historic and the ape coin is sort of the beginning of expanding that culture towards larger groups. And that's what we think here.You know it's how do you get more people to combine with this and to join it and this is kind of the role of the DAO.”
This idea of culture was a common theme throughout the evening as Reddit Co-Founder Alexis Ohanian even compared the BAYC to the early days of Reddit.
“what I’ve watched in the last two years and was really, you know just crypto pilled me is the fact that all of the great energy of desperate online communities that I saw flourish on Reddit now has this extra layer of ownership which is so powerful,” Reddit Co-Founder and DAO Board Member Ohanian said.
As the talk continued, the Board members discussed the significance of DAOs and where Ape Coin and the DAO fit into Web3 ecosystem.
“What's really interesting is that it's the first time I feel like a community members can actually become the stewards of the community that they helped create,” Principal at Sound Ventures and Board Member Maaria Bajwa said. This this decentralized organization, this structure really gives the community members the tools the resources and things that they need in order to be able to leverage and really capitalize on a lot of the value of the community and ecosystem that they've created.”
Bajwa went on to explain that she hopes that the Ape Foundation will become a model of what a DAO should be.
In closing, each of the Board members agreed that their main goal on the Board is to be a good steward of the DAO and build a foundation for it that will last.
“I believe that ape has the ability to transcend the world of crypto and reach sort of mainstream non-crypto people,” President & General Counsel at Horizen Labs Dean Steinbeck said. “So my goal would be to see us get on the path of transcending crypto.”
