Punks, primates, and Web3 art lovers might want to make their way to Ohio this summer, because the Toledo Museum of Art is about to make history with a dozen CryptoPunks set to go on display!

Last week, Yuga Labs announced that the 124-year-old institution, known for showcasing masterpieces by van Gogh, Monet, and more, will be stepping on chain and embracing digital art with a new exhibit titled Infinite Images: The Art of Algorithms, opening July 12, 2025. The exhibit will feature 12 iconic CryptoPunks.

“We’re honored to announce that 12 iconic CryptoPunks are included in the upcoming exhibition Infinite Images: The Art of Algorithms, opening July 12, 2025,” Yuga Labs tweeted from its CryptoPunks account.  “@ToledoMuseum. This landmark survey of contemporary generative art explores how artists across centuries have used instructions, systems, and code to shape visual culture, from ancient geometric patterns to the blockchain. The featured Punks - including Punk #9833 from the museum's permanent collection - embody this tradition: turning algorithmic parameters into culturally resonant portraits."

The Art of Algorithms exhibit will showcase a who's who of rare CryptoPunk traits, including a hoodie-wearing Punk, a Zombie Punk, and an Alien! Check out all 12 featured Punks below:

“Honored to see CryptoPunks receiving increasing institutional recognition via @ToledoMuseum and their upcoming survey on generative art,” Yuga Labs General Manager of the CryptoPunks brand Naugtalie Stone tweeted. “The museum's thoughtful curation places algorithmic art in meaningful dialogue with heritage arts and traditional practices - thereby contextualizing contemporary code with their precedents. Toledo's pioneering approach and serious critical consideration is setting a new standard. Other museums should be taking notes...or they'll be missing out on the art of our time.”

Embracing Web3 and CryptoPunks is nothing new for the Toledo Museum of Art. As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, the museum acquired its first-ever CryptoPunk and a SuperPunk World NFT, created by the first-ever Punks in Residency artist, Nina Chanel Abney, back in December 2024.

“We're thrilled to add SuperPunk #198 by Nina Chanel Abney and CryptoPunk #9833 to our growing digital art collection, the Museum tweeted today. “SuperPunk #198 is part of Super Punk World, a 500-piece avatar collection made by @ninachanel during the Punk-in-Residence program by @cryptopunksnfts. The collection combines #cryptopunks-inspired traits with new ones from Super Cool World, Abney's first NFT collection.ryptoPunk #9833 is part of the collection that inspired the modern CryptoArt movement. By purchasing a CryptoPunk, we follow in the footsteps of @ZKMKarlsruhe and join several others museums with Punks in their collection, including  @CentrePompidou@LACMA.”

The Toledo Museum of Art’s Infinite Images: The Art of Algorithms exhibit will run from July 12 through November 30, 2025, according to the museum’s website. For more information or to plan your visit, head to: https://toledomuseum.org/exhibitions/infinite-images-the-art-of-algorithms
