B(ored)MW BALLOT: Maggie Mae Wants To Design A TrippyPrint ApeCar For The Bored Ape Bimmer Club Art Contest!
Since 2022, Bored Ape Yacht Club member Maggie Mae has been creating the whimsical world of The Book of Reverie, which follows her Ape’s artistic travels through the world of Web3. Now, her next adventure involves being selected to possibly reimagine a BMW as an ApeCar fit for the swamp!
BAYC members are heading to the polls this evening to cast their votes in the Club's Bored Ape Bimmer Club Art Contest, where one artist will be chosen to design a 1/1 ApeCar that’s anything but boring.
One of the five Bored artists whose designs are on the ballot is Maggie Mae, who aims to create a trippy car based on the trippy fur trait!
“The TrippyPrint ApeCar was inspired by the imagery and core values that define both BMW and BAYC culture. Before diving into the car's visuals, I explored the common threads between these two worlds and discovered that they align over four main pillars: innovation, tech, top-tier design, and a strong community culture. I wanted the ApeCar design to embody these pillars while also showcasing my personal aesthetic—unique, colorful, and above all, fun. My favorite trait in the BAYC collection is trippy fur, which became the inspiration for the color palette and the tagline: "It’s not about the destination, it’s about the TRIP." The final concept is a 1:1 print designed for a 1:1 car—a trippy fingerprint that’s layered over the car’s exterior. It accentuates the curves of the body, is bold yet elegant, and will turn heads whether it’s parked or flying down the Autobahn.”
To learn more about her TrippyPrint ApeCar and why the community should vote for her, the Bored Ape Gazette reached out to Maggie Mae for an interview. Check it out below:
1. How does it feel to be picked to possibly design this car?
Absolutely surreal…I’m so honored to have been given a shot to design the ApeCar and be in the company of such incredibly talented artists.
2. Can you tell me a bit more about your design? What was your inspiration?
Trippy Fur is my favorite ape trait—it’s colorful, psychedelic, and fun—something that visually embodies BAYC culture. Tying the color palette into the fingerprint design emphasizes the fact that the car is a true 1:1. At the same time, I really considered how the linear pattern could have 3 unique appearances depending on perspective—up close, from a distance, and in motion (a psychedelic blur of colors that appear to glow).”
3. Why should the community pick your design?
“I think the community should vote for the design that they would love to see come to life—if that happens to be mine, that would be insane, but I’m super excited for whoever is chosen. Will be a crazy moment to witness the reveal!!”
4. Do you have anything else you’d like to add or say?
“ Sending so much love and gratitude to the people who have shown support and shared in the excitement with me following the announcement. Major salute and thanks to Yuga for choosing to elevate artists in the community, for handing us this grand opportunity, and for leading the way.”
The voting window is currently open, and BAYC members can take a closer look at the five artists' designs, learn more about them, and cast their votes anytime between now and 12:30 P.M. EST tomorrow here: http://bmw.bayc.com.
The Bored Ape Gazette is working to bring you interviews with all five artists. Stay tuned for updates!
