Whether he's enjoying Taco Tuesday, wishing moms a Happy Mother's Day, or celebrating the New York Knicks' first championship in 53 years, this Bored Ape Yacht Club member has been on a mission to make his cheetah fur primate a star around the swamp and beyond, one GIF at a time. And with more than 100 million views already, it looks like a lot of people are starting to pay attention!
Since April, BAYC member and Boring Merch founder ApeWhale has been creating GIFs on the popular animation platform Giphy, turning everything from memes and movies to major cultural moments into short form content featuring his primates Bored Ape #7273 and its matching Mutant Ape #4955.
“I started making them as a way to reply to people personally,” ApeWhale said. “It was just a way to use my creativity and have fun using some of the new tools.”

But what started out as a fun creative outlet quickly turned into something much bigger. As ApeWhale uploaded more and more GIFs featuring his NFTs, he began noticing that other people were using them as well.

“Its surreal,” he said “I started doing this for myself since I like using gifs to reply to folks. And it just evolved.”
With that, ApeWhale’s goals for the project evolved too, and now he wants to help people everywhere express themselves, reply to posts, and meme with his primate.
"Billions will Apewhale,” he tweeted. “On the road to 1B GIF views featuring my grail @BoredApeYC. Whether you know it or not, there's a good chance my cheetah ape has already crossed your timeline. If not, it's only a matter of time.”
Currently, ApeWhale has more than 200 GIFs on his Giphy account, and anyone can easily access and use them on X or any other social media platform that supports GIFs.

Looking ahead, ApeWhale said he has another 100 GIFs in the works and because he’s bullish on them because, much like NFTs, he believes they can live on forever.
“It feels surreal to be honest,” ApeWhale said. “knowing that those gifs will live on and continue to be used by people forever is pretty crazy.”
