From ApeGames to countless happy hours, Bored Ape Yacht Club members have been through a lot together in the five years since mint. Yet somehow, plenty of primates still haven’t been properly introduced. That’s about to change in Charleston with an icebreaker that takes the phrase literally!
ApeFest 2026 will be getting off to a cold start on October 16th as BAYC members Ace and GreenVisorGang host a first of its kind ice skating side event in Charleston dubbed Apes on Ice!
“Charleston, we’re coming,” Ace tweeted earlier this week. “What started as an idea is becoming a night for the best club on the internet to come together in real life. We’ll skate, play, laugh, meet the people behind the profiles, and make stories we’ll still be telling long after the ice melts.”
Ace went on to tell the Gazette that meeting the people behind the profiles is really the whole point of this frosty get together.
While most ApeFest side events give holders a chance to grab a drink, catch up, and hang out, Apes on Ice is designed to get people moving, laughing, and interacting in a way that makes it a little harder to hide or freeze others out!
“Why ice skating,” Ace said. “Because it’s fun, a little awkward, and it levels the room. Nobody’s posting from the corner. You’re on the ice or you’re cheering from the boards. It turns profiles into people.”
And the ice won’t be the only place where Apes will be breaking the ice that night.
The entire event is being sponsored by ApeChain-native casino dApp ApeChurch and will begin with an hour of free ice skating before the action moves from the rink to the felt for an IRL poker tournament!
“We’re also running a poker tournament that night. Felt and ice,” Ace said. “Same idea. Sit down, talk, compete, and actually meet the people behind the pfps.”
