CHA(I)NGING THINGS UP: ApeCoin Shuts Down Its AIP Process Ahead Of Next Month’s Move To On ApeChain Voting!

As ApeCoin gets ready to move Ape Improvement Proposal voting on chain this summer, the DAO has paused the current process, requiring all pending proposals to be resubmitted when the new system opens in June.

Four months after the ApeCoin community approved AIP-582, titled “ApeChain, On-chain – ApeCoin DAO Governance Revamp,” which introduced an all-new AIP process filled with temperature checks, contract negotiations, KYC requirements, and more, the transition has officially begun; marking the end of the current process.

“Dear ApeCoin DAO Community, As you may recall, AIP-582 successfully passed DAO vote, and with it comes the promise of a new era of heightened decentralization and on-chain governance,” ApeCoin Facilitator 12Gauge wrote on Discourse over the weekend. “Snapshot X was chosen to develop the DAO’s on-chain voting platform, and construction of the site is nearing the home stretch. With this in mind, the Foundation has announced that the AIP process will be halted until the ApeCoin DAO has fully transitioned to on-chain governance. All current AIPs will need to be resubmitted through the new on-chain process, and no new AIPs will be accepted by the Foundation. We will be sure to keep the community up to speed with any updates from the Foundation as soon as they’re available to be released. Thank you for your support during this period of transition.”

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, the ApeCoin DAO’s revamped on-chain AIP process is modeled after the Arbitrum ecosystem’s, which relies heavily on delegation. That means the ApeCoin Special Council will no longer decide which proposals go to a vote, delegates and the community will.

Once the new process begins in June, proposals will need to pass through an eight-phase, 27–37 day process. That begins with garnering 250,000 $Ape worth of support during a temperature check phase, followed by 500,000 $Ape in support to move it to a DAO-wide vote.

“This process puts a greater emphasis on participating in delegations and on getting support for your idea before it gets submitted to a vote to the entire DAO,” Waabam told the Gazette back in November. 2024” So any community member can still suggest ideas for proposals on discourse - they just need to get a delegation to support it in order to ultimately send it to a temperature check.”

At this time, it’s unclear exactly when in June the new AIP process will officially launch.

The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow this on-chain voting transition and bring you updates on the DAO’s new governance system as more community-approved changes are implemented. Stay tuned for updates!
