Etherscan is so last cycle!
Things are changing onchain around the swamp after Yuga Labs announced Monday that they are moving away from their Etherscan block explorer in favor of an all new, custom built tool made by Apes, for Apes!

ApeChain’s block explorer just upgraded,” the coin announced. “Developed by @yugalabs the new explorer gives us more control to better support Otherside, NFTs, and our communities while reducing operating costs.”
For those unfamiliar, a block explorer is essentially a search engine for a blockchain, allowing anyone to look up transactions, track wallet activity, explore NFTs and tokens, and see what's happening onchain in real time!
With the new explorer, Apes can dive deeper into things they care about, from NFT sales and token analytics to holder counts and market caps, while developers can access APIs to integrate ApeChain data directly into the applications they're building!
This evening’s news comes after hours of uncertainty as $Ape creators shared screenshots of Etherscan notices stating that its ApeChain support would end on October 31.
With other L2's like Blast and Abstract announcing shutdowns, some community members were worried that the end of ApeChain on Etherscan could be a sign of things to come.
But according to ApeCoin's Alok, the move is just about building better infrastructure for the ecosystem,
“Block explorers have traditionally been one-size-fits-all solutions,” ApeCoin’s Alok wrote.” As our ecosystem evolves, we’re seeing opportunities to build more specialized infrastructure around the needs of Otherside, NFTs, and our communities… We’re aiming to minimize disruption with a straightforward transition to the new explorer. In coordination with Arbitrum, we’re also introducing a new version of our Blockscout premium explorer, with migration support for developers who prefer that option. ApeChain and funds on the network remain unaffected. We’re excited about this next step toward supporting our builders and communities in more bespoke ways.”
Following the announcement, notable ApeChain builders like Ape Church's Koko came out in support of the move to a made by apes block explorer.
“Creating your own explorer that caters to your chain’s needs, with custom features you can iterate on and revise at low cost vs Paying exorbitant amounts annually for a brand name,” he said. “I like this move by ApeChain. It shows they’re building for the future.”
