DIGITAL DISPLAY: Toledo Museum of Art Adds CryptoPunk And SuperPunk By Nina Chanel Abney To Its 30,000-Piece Collection!

What do Vincent Van Gogh’s 1888 Wheat Fields With Reaper, Claude Monet’s 1922 Water Lilies, CryptoPunk #9833, and SuperPunk World #198 all have in common? They are all part of the Toledo Museum of Art’s renowned 30,000-piece collection!

123 years after the Toledo Museum of Art opened its doors, the internationally acclaimed Ohio based museum has ventured into the digital art space.  

On Thursday, the museum announced that it had acquired a premier CryptoPunk and SuperPunk World NFT, created by the first-ever Punks in Residency artist, Nina Chanel Abney. These pieces will be showcased as part of the museum’s growing digital art collection.

 

“We're thrilled to add SuperPunk #198 by Nina Chanel Abney and CryptoPunk #9833 to our growing digital art collection, the Museum tweeted today. “SuperPunk #198 is part of Super Punk World, a 500-piece avatar collection made by @ninachanel during the Punk-in-Residence program by @cryptopunksnfts. The collection combines #cryptopunks-inspired traits with new ones from Super Cool World, Abney's first NFT collection.ryptoPunk #9833 is part of the collection that inspired the modern CryptoArt movement. By purchasing a CryptoPunk, we follow in the footsteps of @ZKMKarlsruhe and join several others museums with Punks in their collection, including  @CentrePompidou& @LACMA.”

 

 

This punk pick up sparked excitement in CryptoPunk community with Art Blocks founder SnowFro sharing his thoughts on the museum’s on chain move:

Grateful for institutions continuing to acknowledge, participate in and support our weird little corner of the internet. Longtime CryptoPunk holder BeautyAndPunk, who has famously claimed 39 Punks including her iconic Ape Punk back on June 23rd, 2017, echoed SnowFro’s post saying it’s a good day to be a Web3 art collector.

“What wonderful news to see today,” she tweeted. “Absolutely thrilled to hear about the acquisition and @ToledoMuseum’s commitment to digital art and the transformations we work for and towards.”
