It’s officially election season in the $Ape ecosystem after the ApeCoin DAO opened the window for Apes and $Apes to nominate themselves for this summer’s Special Council election!

On Monday, ApeCoin took to the timeline, calling on $Apes who want to help guide ApeCoin and ApeChain, on chain and in real life, to throw their hat in the ring and run for Special Council!

“ApeCoin Special Council is more than a title,” the DAO tweeted. “This is your moment to lead from the front, connect communities, and fuel meaningful growth across ApeCoin and ON APECHAIN. Apply now for Special Council Elections via the form below, or tag someone who you think should step up.”

Unlike in years past, Special Council members are no longer tasked with reviewing Ape Improvement Proposals. Instead, they’ll be focused on moving Ape culture forward.

Ideal Special Council candidates will have experience in business, familiarity with crypto and Web3, strong relationship-building skills, and the ability to work fast, according to the DAO.

“Special Council will instead act purely as ambassadors of the ApeCoin DAO once on-chain governance has been implemented,” Special Council member Waabam wrote in the ApeCion DAO’s Governence Revamp proposal. “This would include advocating for the ApeCoin DAO and the ApeCoin ecosystem, educating others outside of the DAO and providing advice and guidance to members of the DAO and Foundation.”

As $Ape holders begin to throw their hats in the ring and prepare to vote, Ape Foundation CEO Cameron Kates encouraged everyone to take the process seriously and vote for the person they believe is best for the job, and for moving $Ape forward!

“Council members are global ambassadors,” Kates tweeted. “This isn’t a governance role and shouldn’t be a popularity contest. It’s a call for those who can rep the culture IRL and online.”

Everyone is invited to nominate themselves for this summer’s election now through Wednesday, May 28 at 9:00 p.m. EST.
