EN GARDE: Longtime Supporter Of The BAYC And The Elite Apes Cheung Ka Long Wins Olympic Gold in Fencing
En Garde! Things were anything but boring at the Olympics this week as a longtime supporter of the Bored Ape Yacht Club’s Elite Apes of Hong Kong and the future star of an Ape themed comic won the nation a gold medal in the sport of fencing!
On Wednesday, longtime Elite Apes supporter Cheung Ka Long lunged, parried, and riposted his way to his second-ever Olympic gold medal in fencing, defeating his Italian challenger, Filippo Macchi, 15-14 in the final bout.
“Historical moment for Hong Kong history, thank you for ka long and coach sending this photo to us,” Elite Apes Founder Jason Au tweeted after the match. “Hk gold!!! Our ape @BoredApeYC supporter won a gold medal with @apecoin. We @EliteApesHK are so honored to be with you and seeing your victories since day one 3 years ago!! You are our champion and idol!!”
After Ka Long’s victory, Au told the Gazette that while the gold medal Olympian has not yet aped into the BAYC, he is the co-star alongside a bunch of Bored Apes in a new comic book series that the Elite Apes are making, featuring fencing, community, and culture.
“Ka Long is our real OG in Hong Kong. Supporting web3 and education since our first edition of NFT lab magazine,” Au explained. “Being a public figure and support elite apes ever since. There is a comic about fencing and bored ape cooking for kids education and charity.”
“The story of the comic starts with our ape being so bored and following Ka Long around the world for competitions," Au said. "We introduce culture, countries and educations around the world. Places like Egypt, Mexico, Asia, Europe and exotic countries.”
The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow Ka Long and the Elite Apes’ comic book series and will let you know when and how you can get a copy. Stay tuned for updates!
