FROM ART TO WAR: VonDoom And The Command Line Team's Bathroom Blitz Will Be The First Persistent Otherside Game, According To Garga

Otherside will begin in the same place the Bored Ape Yacht Club did back in the summer of 2021, the Bathroom. But this time, it’s not about scribbling on the walls. It’s about going to war.

On Wednesday, Yuga Labs CEO Garga took to the Otherside Discord and announced that the first ever persistent Otherside experience will be BAYC member CryptoVonDoom and his Command Line team's Bathroom Blitz.

“Big info dump in June, first ODK experience persistent in late June/early July, next one a couple weeks after, and so forth until we get to full persistence for all the main islands (Nexus being the big one, but also The Swamp, Meetropolis,” Garga said. “BB first, then other stuff soon after,” he said. “Other games we haven't talked about yet, Poker, Bubbles, etc.”

 

 

“The Command Line team is truly honored to have Bathroom Blitz be the first always on experience in Otherside,” VonDoom told the Gazette. We started off by drawing dicks on bathroom walls. Now we’re making metaverse history right back where it all started. The only thing that’s changed is the render quality.”

As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, Bathroom Blitz is a team shooter game where Apes are shrunken down and duke it out inside the BAYC clubhouse bathroom.

 

“Batthroom Blitz is crazy little toy soldiers style game,” Garga said on CryptoVonDoom’s FYI Space back in March. “You are the size of a toy soldier and you’re in the BAYC’s bathroom. There is shit everywhere and you got a sniper rifle. You can pick up an AK-47, you can grapple up on the walls. It’s a small team Shooter, 16 by 16. Its fun and kind of an homage to the days of counterstrike, kitchen rats game, and other toy solider mods that have come out for different shooters over the years. Whenever we test it internally or with your team its always a  ton of fun.”

 

Along with confirming that Bathroom Blitz will be the first persistent Otherside experience, Garga also revealed that the game will include a lobby and queue system to matchmake players.

Another key detail: the entire game was built using Yuga Labs’ Otherside Development Kit, which will soon be available to all builders. This makes Bathroom Blitz a proof of concept for Yuga’s vision of a user generated content metaverse.

As we’ve been developing Otherside we’ve been focused on the ODK for people to build on the platform and ship,” Garga previously said. “We are strong believers that modding and UGC is the biggest unlock for gaming and that Web3 rails make a whole lot more sense than Web2 will ever be able to do.”
