From NPC to leading role! Ray Del Mundo is leaving the background and entering the spotlight after The Del Mundos released the first episode of its “DocumentaRAY” series, introducing viewers to the quirky character at the center of the project.

“DocumentaRAY Episode 1 Is everyone sitting comfortably,” The Del Mundos tweeted this afternoon. “Then let the story begin….”

In the 38 second clip, which gave this reporter Wes Anderson vibes, viewers learn that Ray was a non-playable character in the metaverse whose job was cleaning toilets inside an ammunition storage center in a zero gravity first person shooter game. Despite his mundane routine, Ray dreams of something more, and the episode ends in a neon void.

The episode appears to mark the beginning of a series following Ray’s journey from his digital world into ours and his mission to spread “people-powered positivity.”

“GMundos. This is the magic of NFT’s,” Del Mundos holder Simon Eastwood tweeted. “Buckle up, the story’s just beginning.”

As the Gazette previously reported, The Del Mundos is a collection of 10,000 characters that were not digitally generated but physically created using recycled plastics and fabrics. Each character was carefully posed and photographed before being minted onchain, drawing attention from many prominent Web3 collectors.

“This is the most exciting new collection I’ve seen in almost two years, since GVC,” notable BAYC member and collector DFarmer wrote over the weekend. “It’s just different from everything else we’ve seen so far: the fact that every single one of these little fuckers is handcrafted from recycled material, photographed and lovingly put on chain, in a world of digital slop, has a lot of value. And creates an aura you just can’t buy.”

While the team has not revealed when Episode 2 will be released, the creators say storytelling and surprises are key parts of their long term plans.

“For us its always been about fun first and how we can bring the community around fun and positivity and drive value back to the community, while doing something positive with that energy, “Co-Founder Charlie said on Spaces last week. “The art is our foundation. But from there it’s about building out story, IP, and partnerships. And having a strategic order of initiatives we’ve been developing to roll out in a certain order for our plans to be cemented, and to work and to give the project longevity.”

The Gazette will continue to follow The Del Mundos and will let you know what these guys do next. Stay tuned for updates!
