Apes, check your wallets and make your decks!

Things were anything but boring at Beeple Studios last night as the Bored Ape Yacht Club unveiled Mudwater, an all new trading card game that brings physical collectibles onchain by pairing each printed card with an NFT and vice versa!

“Mudwater is an old game played deep in the Everglades. Instead of dice in alleys, we play Mudwater on the docks. The game is simple, but the skill ceiling is high. And we play for keeps. We've just airdropped this 6551 Totem, paired to all BAYC & MAYC, enabling pack claims.”

Created in partnership with Orange Cap Games, the company behind Pudgy Penguins' Vibes TCG, Mudwater's inaugural set, dubbed Swamp Origins, features 120 different card designs inspired by the past five years around the swamp, with various foils, serialized editions, and rare cracked ice grails up for grabs!

In total, the first set will feature 2.4 million cards spread across 10,000 boxes, with each box containing 24 packs that each have 10 cards!

To celebrate the launch, every Bored Ape and Mutant Ape was paired with an airdropped ERC-6551 Totem that allows its holder to claim 10 packs per BAYC and two packs per MAYC between now and January 19, 2027!

Meanwhile, ApeFest attendees were each given a physical Mudwater box, and additional boxes were made available for purchase at the club's pop up shop at Union Station in Charleston, South Carolina, on Sunday, with packs priced at $100 each.

Unlike traditonal TCGs or NFTs, these collectibles are both digital and physical at the same time. Every card  someone pulls onchain is backed by a physical card, bringing a whole new meaning to the idea of phygital collectibles.

“Every rip is paired to a sequential physical rip, handled by professionals in a secure room within a warehouse,” Yuga Labs’ VP of Blockchain 0xQuit tweeted. “Filmed, hashed, published onchain, and metadata is applied to your card at rip time.”

Along with bringing new onchain and offchain mechanics to the swamp, Mudwater also introduces a rewards system that aims to give collectors a stake in the game's success, according to Yuga Labs CEO Michael Figge.

“There's been a lot of talk about alignment between projects and collectors we want to experiment with a new mode,” he tweeted. “Trading on this collection implements a 2.5% $APE Reflection, which is a trading fee used to buy apecoin and distribute to pack holders hold more packs get more apecoin the reflection and the creator royalty % are the same so we're 50/50 with holders let's build this together”
