Going. Going. Gone!

Things were bullish at the ballpark and on the Solana blockchain today as sports and entertainment collectibles company Candy knocked its first drop under Tad Smith out of the park with a complete sellout!

The release featured 500 2026 MLB Base Series packs priced at $10 USD each and sold out in seconds.

After the drop, Smith took to the timeline to thank the Candy community for putting on their rally caps and helping fuel the Candy comeback.

“We appreciate all who participated in @CandyDigital ‘s pilot drop (and our first drop of any kind in a year),” he said.  “As expected, we identified a few glitches here and there (check out flow, slow loading of credits, email confirmations, slow loading of items in collections, and the like) and fixes to those are well underway. That said, having everything sold out in a few seconds was a great http://Candy.io comeback story for which we are thankful to all of you.”

Today's Candy comeback is the result of months of work by Smith and his team to bring the platform back to life.

As the Gazette previously reported, Smith, who previously served as CEO of Sotheby's and currently serves as Chairman of Doodles, first revealed plans to acquire Candy Digital back in March 2026 before officially completing the acquisition in May, with the goal of revitalizing the platform and pushing digital collectibles forward.

Since then, Smith and his team have brought the platform back after years offline, migrated it to Solana, held today's first drop back and teased that "summer will be sweet" for Candy.

Tonight, nothing is completely confirmed about what’s next for the platform, but Smith did tease that they’re planning another 500 pack drop next week.

“Our current plan is to do another 500 pack test drop on Wednesday the 22nd to ensure that we have made the experience smoother. However, we will likely limit packs to one per checkout so that as many fans as possible can be involved.”
