Talk about a gold rush and sugar high!

On Wednesday, sports and entertainment collectibles company Candy Digital held a reverse auction for its 2026 MLB Gold Series ICONs featuring some of baseball’s brightest young stars, and the packs sold out fast!

“Candy Digital's second 2026 MLB Gold Series ICONs release, Next Gen, concluded today on candy.io, with all 36 packs claimed in 22 minutes for a total of $29,000 by 18 lucky collectors,” the brand announced in a press release.  The first pack was claimed at $2,000 and the last at $700. Next Gen featured six of the game's brightest young stars: Elly De La Cruz, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Junior Caminero, Gunnar Henderson, Jackson Chourio and James Wood. Each player has just 36 Gold Series editions in existence: (25) Rare ICONs numbered to /25, (10) Epic ICONs numbered to /10, and a single 1-of-1 Legendary. Every pack contained six Gold Series ICONs with at least one Epic, and a 1-in-6 chance of a Legendary. Select packs carried a seventh bonus ICON: either a PeteCrow-Armstrong Pixicon Insert /5 or an Elly De La Cruz Moment icon Insert /5.”

As the Gazette previously reported, Candy Digital has been mounting a comeback since May 2026, when former Sotheby’s CEO and Bored Ape Yacht Club member Tad Smith officially acquired the platform.

Since then, Smith and his team have brought the platform back after years offline, migrated it to Solana, started selling packs again, and given Candy Digital collectors greater control over their digital assets.

Following Wednesday’s Gold Series sellout, Smith took to the timeline to congratulate collectors and the Candy team before teasing what’s on deck!

“Congratulations to the winning  @CandyDigital fans as well as my hard-working colleagues on another very successful auction,” he tweeted.

“Next up, how about a Friday spaces with our own "the Professor" and "the Doctor" on coming improvements to http://Candy.io and secondary marketplaces, easier payments, as well minting. I won't want to miss those. Plus, I am jonesing to see how our DC Comics fans would respond to a major quest.  3pm ET Friday. Be there or be square.”

Gazette will continue to follow all things Candy Digital and will let you know what’s next for the platform as its comeback continues. Stay tuned for updates!
