From stanning for Beeple to meeting Figge, investor turned digital collectors Jehan Chu and Jeannie Vu are feeling grateful and golden this weekend after purchasing a gold fur Bored Ape for 96.5 ETH, or $194,000 USD!

After making waves around the swamp last night, Kenetic Capital founder Jehan Chu and Jeannie Vu took to the timeline and revealed that they were the mystery buyers behind Bored Ape #2089.

@BoredApeYC means much more than we think;  @jeannievu and I spend a lot of time in the digital art world ( @lacma ,  @rhizome ), and it's clear that culture is the ultimate moat of humanity,” Chu tweeted. “What @mfigge and his incredible team are building will be the Bifrost of the digital culture realms and it's a joy to be a small part of its history. Personally can't wait for the BAYC Asia tour - that's a whole lot of people about to be re-introduced to Apes. There are 46 golden apes, but this Angel Investor Ape tells my story. See you in the Clubhouse. *Grateful to  @grailsotc for making this happen.”

Bored Ape #2089 is a six-trait gold fur primate featuring a finance vest, angel halo, and hypnotized eyes, making it one of the rarest apes around the swamp.

While many collectors would have chased this Ape for its rarity alone, Chu says he was drawn to it because it perfectly reflects both who he is and his journey through crypto.

“As an investor there's a joy I get from backing dreamers and doers; it's a value I can't count and I can't spend,” he tweeted. “I may wear my unicorns on my vest, but the joy of backing brilliant artists/founders and seeing them truly cook is the real halo. Money comes and money goes, but knowing that you got to help someone move the world a little bit...that's golden.”

After Chu's tweet, Yuga Labs CEO Michael Figge took to the timeline in a full-circle moment, welcoming his friends to the best club on the internet and agreeing that this Ape was the perfect fit for them.

“super stoked to have @collectionist in the club with this grail he and  @jeannievu have been huge supporters of this space and helped introduce me to a lot of trad art before this I knew jehan as an angel investor, who has always supported me and many others, so this combo of the angel halo and finance vest on a gold ape is perfect looking fwd to tour in june. many more people are going to be re-introduced to bayc, otherside, and$ape there are only 46 gold apes collectors collect bored ape yacht club”

The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow Chu and Vu and will let you know what they do next around the swamp. Stay tuned for updates!
