Happy Birb Day to you!

On this day one year ago, Moonbirds officially flew the Yuga Labs nest and into the hands of Orange Cap Games, whose founder Spencer promised IP development, experiences, and more.

“At Orange Cap Games, our mission is to bring beloved IPs to life through carefully crafted experiences that introduce them to new fans and deepen the connection with existing communities,” the Orange Cap Games team wrote after the aquistion. “Today, we’re thrilled to share that OCG is acquiring Moonbirds, Mythics, & Oddities from Yuga Labs. We are excited to take the reins (or should we say wings) of Moonbirds and write the next chapter of one of the most storied franchises in the on-chain (and sometimes in-chain) world. Moonbirds have simply been nesting during the bear market, filled with untapped possibility, and under our stewardship, it is now time to take flight.”

And in the 365 days since, the Birb has been the word!

Within months of taking over the brand, Orange Cap Games sold more than 68,000 mystery blind boxes, launched a slew of soulbound tokens across Ethereum and Solana, dropped its memecoin $BIRB, and reintroduced a new kind of nesting to the ecosystem.

More recently, Moonbirds started flapping their IP wings with AI-generated video content, collectible tie-ins, and the brand's partnership with Rekt Drinks.

“We’ve actually done so much in the first year it’s crazy,” Spencer tweeted. “Time to take things to the next level.”

Looking ahead,  we don't know exactly what's on the horizon for Moonbirds, but we do know the collection will make its debut in the popular VibesTCG trading card game this June alongside Pudgy Penguins and that expanding the IP  of the flock is OrgangeCapGames’ focus.

As the Gazette previously reported, Spencer recently called IP one of crypto's best use cases.

“The reason NFTs will win in the long run is because IP development is an actual use case for crypto,” Spencer prevously tweeted on April 27th. “Many other things in the space will fail because they are over financialized and don’t solve a real problem. Defi fails when the risk outweighs the yeild. NFTs can only fail if the IP becomes irrelevant. North Korea can increase the risk of your defi protocol, but it cannot dilute the relevance of your IP. Lesson there.”

The Gazette will continue to follow all things Moonbirds and will let you know what’s next for the flock. Stay tuned for updates!
