Horizen Labs Plans To Vote Less And Delegate More At The ApeCoin DAO, According To The Company’s VP Of Ecosystem Growth BlockChainzilla.
Horizen Labs is making moves at the ApeCoin DAO, announcing that it plans to give the $Ape community control of its millions of votes.
After an active 2024 for Horizen Labs—which included working with Arbitrum and OffChain Labs to create ApeChain and getting the 100 million $Ape Banana Bill passed—the company’s VP of Ecosystem Growth and Banana Bill Program Facilitator, BlockChainzilla, announced that Horizen Labs will play a lesser role in voting on proposals.
“Please note that Horizen Labs will be making adjustments to its voting strategy for ApeCoin,” Blockchainzilla tweeted this evening. “As we move forward, this will include more delegation and less direct voting. There will likely be a gap in our voting record over the next few weeks as we're actively moving things around and preparing for this. On the one hand, we want to avoid the appearance of conflicts with our involvement with ApeChain and the Banana Bill. On the other, we believe the DAO and Foundation are in a much stronger place thanks to the tireless work of the SC, Foundation, new and existing delegations, the Governance Working Group, and others. We will step in with voting if/when absolutely needed and continue to offer our resources, advice, thoughts, and assistance on AIPs. But it's time to ensure more voting power is in the community's hands. Looking forward to working closely with delegations and continuing to push the ecosystem forward!”
At this time, it's unclear how Horizen Labs will manage its vote delegation, but Governance Working Group Steward, Big Bull, shared his support, calling this move a step in the right direction for the DAO. “A system that focuses on delegations is key,” he wrote.
Former Special Council member and Banana Bill Advisor Captain Trippy also chimed in, applauding Horizen Labs and encouraging other large delegations to follow the company's lead.
“Love to see this step by @HorizenLabs to make their voting more decentralized and democratic," he wrote. “We need more of this and I encourage other large voters to take steps to do the same. One step at a time. @apecoin”
The Bored Ape Gazette will continue to follow Horizen Labs and its millions of $Ape and will keep you updated on how they delegate them going forward. Stay tuned for updates!
