IT'S A MATCH: Yuga Labs' CEO Daniel Alegre Told The Story Of His First Meeting With Gordon& Garga

When Yuga Labs’ new CEO first met the founders, he knew that something was brewing!

On a recent episode of Overpriced J-Pegs, Yuga Labs’ new CEO Daniel Alegre, who was previously the Chief Operating Officer of Activision Blizzard, told the story of his first meeting with Yuga Labs Co-Founders, Gordon Goner and Garga.

After a few missed connections and a flight from Mexico to Florida, Alegre met Goner and Garga for dinner in Miami.

During that meet up, the three men hit it off and Alegre told the Co-Founders that the biggest issue he faced in the traditional gaming space was frustration from users who felt disconnected from the product.

“Gamers spend a tremendous amount of hours and a lot of money on the game and if for whatever reason you reached your limit, you don’t like the next version of the game, you go, well now what?” Alegre said. “Oh I got to start over in another game and there’s a lot of pent-up frustration in Gamers saying, ‘hey I actually want to be able to take my persona, I want to be able to capitalize on what I’ve been able to do and the progress I’ve made.’”

As the dinner continued, Alegre quickly realized that he and Yuga Labs were a match made in heaven.

“We just started shooting the breeze,” and they said ‘well that problem, we can solve that for you with Yuga Labs and where we want to take it,” Alegre recounted. “Honestly it was a marriage made in heaven. They’re focused on content and content creation and community. Then the evolution into not only gaming but just overall entertainment and connectivity through entertainment and putting creators and community at the core; that’s really what gaming should be all about.”

Garga and Goner clearly agreed that Yuga Labs and Alegre were a match made in heaven. As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, Yuga Labs announced in December 2022 that Alegre would be the company’s next CEO.

“When it comes to the metaverse we’re competing with giants,” Garga wrote in a press release after the company announced that Alegre would be joining the swamp. “In order to catapult Otherside and our other ambitious projects to new heights, we’ve known for a long time we wanted to bring in someone with a proven track record of building at the highest possible level.”

Since then, Alegre has taken over as the Company’s CEO and has brought on his friend, Mike Seavers from Epic Games, to be Yuga Labs’ Chief Technology Officer.
