"IT’S THE FOURTH QUARTER": Outgoing Special Council Member BoredApeG Says ApeCoin’s Next Leaders Must Be ‘Bold And Decisive!’

The ApeCoin DAO’s longest serving Special Council member, BoredApeG, is nearing the end of his term this summer. As his time in office winds down, he says he hopes his successors are ready to take “bold and decisive action” because $Ape’s in the fourth quarter and needs to score!
Election season is in full swing across the ApeChain ecosystem. $Apes and Apes alike are throwing their hats in the ring, running for DAO leadership positions, and saying goodbye to Special Council member BoredApeG, one of the first community elected members to serve on the Council.
Back in December 2022, BoredApeG received the most votes of any candidate and was one of three elected from the community. He was reelected in December 2023 and has since played a key role in reviewing countless AIPs, helping with the ApeCoin x Alpine F1 partnership, supporting the passage of the Banana Bill, and helping make ApeChain a reality, among other things.
“Serving on the Special Council has been a tremendous honor, and I am proud of what we’ve accomplished together,” he told the Gazette. I” hope my successors are actually empowered to make a meaningful difference within the APE ecosystem. The constraints that previously held us back should no longer be an issue – it’s the fourth quarter, and we’re down by two touchdowns, so now is the time to push forward with bold and decisive action.”
As the Bored Ape Gazette previously reported, unlike in years past, Special Council members are no longer tasked with reviewing Ape Improvement Proposals. Instead, they’ll be focused exclusively on moving Ape culture forward.
“ApeCoin Special Council is more than a title,” the DAO tweeted earlier this week. “This is your moment to lead from the front, connect communities, and fuel meaningful growth across ApeCoin and ON APECHAIN.”
While BoredApeG supported the idea of disbanding the Special Council during the DAO’s recent governance revamp, he says he respects the decision to keep it and is excited to be proven wrong.
“Personally, I have been an advocate for sunsetting the Special Council in favor of hiring one or two specialized individuals to better meet the needs of the ecosystem. However, I remain open-minded and hopeful that the next Council will prove me – and others who shared this view – wrong. I’ll be actively engaged in the community, eager to see how the new SC members rise to the occasion.”
